Hey guys! I'm looking into purchasing a new wacom and stumpled onto this:
http://www.wacom.com/lcdtablets/index_18sx.cfm
I just thought I might be able to ask someone who used one before... or knows if its worth getting one. It's to do my digital paintings. Using Photoshop.
Thanks. |

I know the Cintiq 18SX quite well. Im regularly doing presentations of this pen display on Wacom events in germany and I had one of those for about one month at home. First for what I can say is that they are very well manufactured concerning the materials and ergonomics. They are very long life so the money you might spend on one is save for several years of intens use. Also, the display itself is a very good quality concerning colors and viewing angle (you have no felt viewing angle restriction at all)
How good you will be able to work on one of these displays depends on your working style. I for example am used to working quite fast with fast color changes via color picker and small and quick brush strokes. The Cintiq lags a bit behind this movements and tends to slow you down a bit. If you are the guy that renders the hell out of every shading you definetly will miss the 1024 pressure units of the intuos2 series. Cintiq only has 512 and thus compares to a graphire concerning tip feel. On the other hand, the Cintiq is just perfect for sketching. I dont know why but brush lag is not really an issue when you are sketching.
I could write several pages of cintiq review but I think there is no other way for you than to test one by yourself. Besides all the issues I mentioned above I must say that it is just plain fun to use the Cintiq. And its not only the first few times but every time I use these displays I just cant get enough of it. Thats the reason why I without doubt will purchase one of myself that moment when I have some spare money at hand.
Well, I painted this selfportrait with the Cintiq 18SX, perhaps thats of interest for you (concerning precision or whatever...)
