hey guys, just dropping by to wish everyone a nice summer.
As you may have noticed weekly drawing is closed, no point in keeping a sinking ship floating.
I have been joining the cgtalk's daily sketches this week and it was really funny I can tell you.

Me will probably be back in July sometime in this thread so keep it up everyone.

Today's scribble for cgtalk and the theme was "New Frontier" and of course Star Trek came to me mind. Smile
20 minutes scribble.

woohoo I'm not dead yet!

Lots of nice works in here. Although it seems like the speedpainting thread is turning into some gigantic life-choking fungus that is killing the rest of the forum...Is it a problem? is it a good thing? Time will tell (and besides it's a matter for the art discussion forum). Enough talking:

(i hate looking at my stuff right after calibrating my monitor Razz )

Novacaptain, you are mentioning a good thing here and yes I think u are right eventhough I think this is the greatest thing ever I feel it is disturbing the rest of the gallery finished section.
What I want and have been wanting for a while is an entire new section with themed threads and or sketches section with the speedy placed there, could hold also a lot of other cool themed topics in that section like daily sketching and such.

Anyway, I have tried for so long to keep the forum alive with different themed topics and stuff but it seems no-one really cares. At cgtalk there is a lot of guys being involved all the time and that makes that forum more alive. Here alot of members post their works like in the wip section and just leave it there to be history, no offense to anyone, but if one is posting I feel they should be obligated to get back into the thread and answer at least one time.

about the forum future, I don't know? and I used to love this place.
sorry about my rambling but I like to say what is on my mind.
Matthew

nova, nice birds there btw. Smile

sup fellas

long time lurker first time poster.
I'm gonna try to be a regular and get the practice in.
Here's a quickie in painter 7 trying to make it look like oils... Sometimes the build up is wierd and causes little glitches. I find that using inverted depth on the second half is better.

my first post here. Any tips greatly appreciated!

from ref:

one question : how come the colours look less vibrant when saved in Jpeg or gif than when in Psd? i've just upgraded to photoshop 7 from no:6 and didnt encounter this problem before.

My 4th finger on my left hand broke when my brother punched me. so now I must wear a cast for 4 weeks. It's so hard to paint with constant pain and no short cut keys. to tired to do anything more complex then this. I can't wait to get back into my daily speed paintings. hm... 4 weeks is not to long.

a pic of my finger.

skullmonkeys: he didnt get anything cause I didnt fight back. I didnt want to hurt him and I thought he was done punching me and I was going to get out of there, but he kept on punching and I tried to block with my hand and he broke my finger. And the whole thing started because I wouldlnt let him play unreal tournament 2k4.

hm... I don't know what this is. some kind of bike.

There's something like this here: http://www.cgchat.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=78

although it is more game concept art based.

Gygaxis: thanks.

Im always very contained with comments although Im spending a lot of time looking at the pictures here and am enjoying them a lot. I wouldnt ever get finished if I would comment everything here I like. However here are a few:

Neff: the last few from you I like. You really get better. Keep it up.
starglider2: That one on top of this page is really great. Feels so relaxed.
octavian: your stuff I also really like!

and these two are from ref. (lord of the rings) each ~20-30min.

Matthew, probably not a good idea to put those reflection pages up. That information was given to me at art center, and like the cube stuff, they might get a little huffy that I am giving out all this for free. So pass them around discreetly, but don't blast them across the net. That is why I have them down from my site.

Had to paint something just to tell you this...

anyone else miss hpx?

I do: homage (just realized how inappropriate this image is. Its not as classy as hpx's images, in fact its not classy at all but if you want to see it, its here, but its not work friendly.)

and

Mathew, I don't know if I agree with your suggestions. I think this is the best thread on any of the art forums. I learn more here than in anywhere else. I also think that this thread moves along swiftly and smoothly, and besides the few ignorant blehblehbleh comments, mostly everyone here is having fun. (I think). I like the fact that I can post something with virtually any level of finished quality and not feel like I have to attach some sappy meaning to it or have some sort of "grand revelation" behind my image. I just like to practice, and although I can do it on my own, i feel more motivated by all the other artists here pursuing the same goal. That is enough for me to stick around and post my ass off... all the while, I get a ton of practice.

I think the speed paint thread includes loads of different parts of a forum at one centre. You've got the best of themed threads when there are phases of samurai or cars or whatever. You've got some relatively finished work, some painting info and advice, some discussion (sorry), and since it's mostly speed-paintings, with the most frequent posters you have your daily sketch group.

i don't think another section to sijun forums is essential, becuase we've got a lot of variety just in this one thread, imho.

don't think I've posted this before.
