Hey

Too many times I see posts go down ignored from the original poster with help been given into his thread, this is pretty annoying and makes people that help stop doing it. I am one of those, I don't see any meaning with helping people out if the post is gonna be ignored.

Maybe I am bad with giving tips what do I know, or maybe I am just whining.

ok I will try to stop helping out from now on, just felt I had to speak out from my mind since this is a forum.

Heeeeeh, Matthew, please don't do that! Shocked You've just started helping me out, and it'll be horrible if you stop so soon!!! Razz
I really do apprecciate all the help (most of the times I really am not sure what to chose and what next to do, I often find myself "stuck"). And maybe other ppl just can't come to the forum so oten... And, of cuz, it takes time to do all the changes (at least I was sweating over her nose for half an hour for sure!)

I know that feeling.....
Well, at least it practise for yourself if you do paintovers and critique Matthew.
I really wouldn't stop. I quess you're (also) talking about the one you did for Misc.
Man I really liked it. At least it helped me (truly).
It's just interesting to see other peoples interpretations especially yours.
On forums more people will see and like your work than you might think. as a matter of fact not all will reply.
That's kinda hard, I know. Feedback is something great...always....
Everyone here can tell you that you are doing a great job with helping people. That's nice. I hope you get more positive feedback for your effort in the future. You deserve it.

thanks for the replies here, I guess I had to say something about it and yea it is pretty annoying.

Kagri, I know the feeling there with getting stuck, can sometimes be really difficult to take a painting further and one can't really put the finger on the problem either. keep up the good work I really like that drow.

Max, u have always been helpful Max and thanks for the feedback here. Overpaints is very helpful and I have learned a lot from doing them for people and also with guys given overpaints to me, I always love when someone is doing an overpaint for me.
I guess I was also talking about misc's overpaint I did but there has been so many now and also posts with text aswell with tips and such go down ignored, was the overpaint good? Embarassed Well I made a new own piece with the ideas from there, I guess u saw that one aswell.

Summer is on here and I am having me a vacation now so hopefully a lot of painting with me oils this summer. Smile
have a nice summer Max and I hope to see some new works from you soon.
keep up the good work and thanks for the encouragment here Max and yea u too Kagri. Smile

I think this topic points out why the wip section never took off.
Usually, when you post something and receive some crits, you struggle with it a bit more and post the results. However, after a number of hours it's very natural to feel tired of the painting and the urge to move on arises. This may be a reason behind all those crits unanswered.

Anyway, I consider that criticising is good even if the person doesn't reply. I've learned a lot from crits given to other people, and from overpaints done for other people. Also, when you criticise something, you are trying to analize it and that helps you too, because you'll try to avoid doing that you were criticising a moment before.

All in all, I think criticising is good and useful from a selfish point of view, whether your crits are heard or not.

Well, I guess I'm one of the bad-guys that contributed to the existence of this post...
I'm new to this forum. At first I was surprised by the amount of talented people that post their stuff here. And to be able to get critics from you people is invaluable. So, please, don't stop giving that just because some of us (like me) are late with their updates (I can't paint on a regular basis right now). I'm sure that everyone that gets critique for their pictures appreciate it, or at least appreciate that someone tokk the effort to criticize the picture.

Misc, I guess this was unfair to u and it is nothing personal and u did came back to your thread so I am sorry for your name to be mentioned.

But, thing is that I think I have been involved with like 10 or more threads just these 3 latest weeks with getting no reply back. And when counting the threads going down unreplied where I haven't been involved there are a lot of them. So this just made me questioning why or and if we are any help at all, there were some guys helping out a lot in here but I don't see them around anymore so the post I posted here wasn't just in a selfish way, it was all about the helping out and with the help going un-called for.

Since it is a forum and I said that earlier aswell, but one can really questioning why some guys are posting when they don't seem to care about to get back into the thread they posted, and once again nothing personal to you misc. I remember some way back when I was new and I questioned this also back then but that just made me get into flaming and that was nothing I urged for.

Anyway I don't think I am solving anything here but I like to keep an open discussion about things and maybe something helped.
Once again thanks for your thoughts guys and misc I am sorry there for the pointing out, sorry and keep it up.

Matthew

Regarding people giving crits, well, it's true that many people that used to give crits isn't around anymore, but that's natural. Forums go changing all the time.
I remember many people that don't post around anymore, but maybe it's because they got a job that doesn't give them time to post, maybe they just lost interest in the forum... in some time other people will come and fill in the gaps.
I myself have been ausent for months sometimes. In fact, since I last posted a painting it's been like, 5 months? I don't have much time lately neither for giving crits nor painting, and that has something to do with my lack of pieces posted, because I don't know if I'll have the time for working on them in the next week, which leads to post with no replies and whatnot.

Bleh, I talk too much Razz

I dunno matt, in the case of misc, he'd replied within 3 days which isn't bad.
You and I and others hang around this place nearly everyday, so 3 days can seem like a while.

And I suppose at the end of the day, no harm has been done if people don't reply to your help. I find it educational trying to establish and fix perceived weaknesses and mistakes in other people's pics. In other words:

don't stop posting help! I know I appreciate it!

One of the greatest things about this forum is how people feel free to give critics and help eachother out. I've seen several forums where there are hardly any replies on the work people post and when there are its just safe polite insincere stuff that generates no discussion and doesn't help anybody. Keep posting Matthew, and like Ragnarok was saying, even though the person who posted doesn't reply theres a good chance that someone else will be reading through and learn something.
