I really wanted to give up on this, but zhuzhu wanted to see the flaming wreckage, so here it be

I think this gets dangerously close to what bleheheheehhhehheee was saying. I feel this is more an image about artrage than me. Reminds me of the boot-chinned astronaut getting a tickertape parade while the geeks who made the rocket are home with their comics. Dont feel that way with PS, maybe just had more time with it.

But jeez it needs alt-click. I like to move shapes back and forth and doing this with that medieval color picker is really frustrating and slow. Alt pick, know where you are, modify, paint. I hope the next version has that. When I paint with real paints I mix more of a color that will form the key of a painting for just that reason. I know where I am, what I have, then I can modify to get subtle, accurate results. The ball park way makes for a lot of contrast in areas that you dont want. But in this goey style of shape painting you think its OK. Bad habits.

Hmm thanks p-rik, very generous!

Tayete, Yes I know that the information is there, but it is in a non-intuitive form (for me anyhow). You liked that dance pick? Hum, erotic you say? Cool, I had not thought of that. Thanks! BTW, I have been getting all kinds of strange mail saying that my art is very sexual. Totally bizarre, I have no idea what is going on.

spooge artrage proggie is indeed infuriating, but still, for an unknown reason i feel such a pleasure opening it, especially after an 8 hour photoshop session. i guess i feel good having a simple brush to work with, forgetting about the technical armada photoshop can offer.
but that alt-click oh mama, that is surely a mistake forgetting about it. not being able to have my left hand stuck on alt is a nightmare.
that artwork is so nice, i really wanted to see what you could come up with in artrage.

stereo, i love every single image you have posted lately.
viag: very nice.
deckard: your latest is a success
wasssup: i still have your environment with white sail in mind. so nice

keep it up peeps.
i'll post tonight.

Me + photoshop = edge confusion. I've noticed that I approach painting with the computer in a much more haphazard way... I want to practice everyday, but I usually sit down and feel a mental block about what to paint. so I end up pushing "paint" around until something emerges, however for me, this usually leads to messy edges and massive compositional problems.

I've noticed that people ask how to paint like this person or that person, but rarely people ask about the realm of idea or how to create an image consistently. So how DO some of you come up with fantastic ideas almost every day? Spooge, wassup, sparth, etc.... where do all these ideas come from? does it flash in your mind like a revalation, or do you simply say to yourself, "I'm going to paint a samurai today, in the rain, killing lots of people." Then you'll think about the light, composition, and color you'll use. Maybe it comes from sketches first?

I paint just about everyday because the practice has made me better, but as I said, its difficult to think of a solid idea everyday. I'd like to hear some ideas from you all.

anyway, heres a ref pic (30 min)...Curly Bill is my favorite evil cowboy

now heres the random shape mess I usually spend way too long fooling with (1-2 hours)

and

spooge:

wow! you are my hero! Very Happy that "oil painting" looks great! i konw the pain of without ALT key,but it is also a good challenge.

i had email them and got the answers:

Hello,

Thank you for your comments regarding ArtRage! I think those are some very useful suggestions and I have passed them on to the other people involved with the update. We are working on being able to paint on a larger sized canvas at the moment. It was great to see your art, it looks extremely well done!

Best Regards
