Weekly Drawing - Week 23

logo made by: leander

The rules of weekly drawing:

*all mediums accepted
*concepts and speed sketches are allowed
*everyone is allowed to post how many times they want
*Weekly Drawing will only last for a week after which there will be a new topic

I will start a discussion thread over in the digital art discussion too so feel free to give me some pointers about this thread there and also, maybe we can come up with topics in there if you guys have any special ideas.

This weeks topic is - Dinosaur Hunters

In the 24th Century the most animal species will be exterminated and in the seek for food and meat Human mankind decides to send some Hunters back in time to look for food. Through time travels this became the truth and they managed to get back to the dinosaur age and the hunt is now on.
*This week will be about to illustrate their struggle and fight against the dinosaurs and you are free to illustrate it the way you like*

This is based on a favourite comic of mine which I used to read when I was younger, I guess they only showcased one season here with this comic and I could only find the first issue aswell and the pic above is the first inside page in that comic. in swedish, Dinosaurie Jgarna = Dinosaur Hunters.
Let me know if you guys read this comic too and what the english title was cause that I don't know.

hope you guys like this week
thanks for the logo participation last week
Matthew

actually started out with a lone hunter, but I figured he would take too long to paint (wanted to keep it under one and a half hour)and the missile attack would be more fun.
hope you like.

great works there guys. Smile

Sniff I can't paint when I have fever, cold and a sneezy nose.
btw check out me new brush in the bottom of the painting, a triangle, gives a really rough and good texture even when used as a single triangle brush without texture setting.

back to sneezing.

ax--hv, awesome me bows.

Osto, haha lovely maan made me really laugh. Smile

With the texture, been using spooges tricks lately with adding oil paintings or old paintings over the speedys. Add one of your oil-paintings in a new layer over the speedy and then set overlay mode or experiment with those layer modes. After that you can transform the layer aswell if it is some special strokes that you wanna use from the painting overlayed.

I added some textures to yours and the textures used is beneath, sometimes there can be happy accidents with this tecnique and then you render those or add to the painting afterwards.

Hope it helps.

keep it up there Osto. Smile

Thanks guys!

Matthew> Do you paint on paper? Very powerful technique in my opinion. I'll show you my attempt to paint using palette knives later when the paints will dry :)

Joe84> I use custom brushes and sometimes make new ones for some special reason during the workflow . But not in this one, it was made from the 1 minute presketch which I try to avoid to do. In my case it leads to extremely messy look.

Osto> Probably this tutorial will interest you as well.

see, thank you there. Smile

ax--hv, yea I paint on greaseproof paper since I can't afford any canvas, how did you know? Smile it's not that bad though and u can paint thin in the beginning and in the end add really thick layers.
Pallette knife is really a good tool to avoid getting the colors to mix and become grey and out of saturation, just apply and fix some edges with a brush and let some rough edges be so that there is life in the painting.
ah yea I am looking forward to see your experiments. Smile

ok I blame this one on me cold, sniff me so sneezy.

I was afraid that I choosed a bad topic this week but I think the dinosaur hunt is going really well.
keep it up everyone.
