I just installed ARTRAGE, and i already seriously mis an "ALT-select color"
shortcut. I cannot live without the most essential shortcut in the universe.

You always need to go to the color wheel

few mins in ArtRage :

One more wank : i dont like the toolset and colorwheel overlap the canvas and you cannot specify image size

I too don't like that you cannot set an image size and use alt+click to pick colours.

As for the palettes, you just right click on the canvas and it hides, right click again and it shows.

About Artrage:
They are working on an upgrade and color sampling from the canvas should be in there. Better for the workflow.
If you have other requests you can mail them.

Xia: like the archer.

Maybe not the most interesting/memorable designs from a certain game, but anyways:

Leet points to the one who not only knows the game, but also the names of the monsters, without looking it up.

I deviated a bit from the sprite on this one, since the design was kind of lacking.

I remember being able to take out all 4 claws with one bomb.

This one is also redesigned a bit. Instead of doing the blinking thing, it hides the eye with the mandibles.

Two things strike me as important when doing these. 1.) To keep color identity (make them look whatever color they are), go from shadow to 'lit' (the color in plain light), but skip the soft gradiation from lit to bright highlight or color identity will be lost. I just pop some highlight dots on these instead. 2.) Slight hue variations makes a mono colored ... things look better too.

I think the Alt select color thingy is too much of a luxury, and it makes us remember what color we just picked, so we can pick it again with no trouble, so I like that artrage is as limited as it is, almost that I must say that I would want no undo button haha. havent seen a color pricker but there is that big thing in t he right bottom corner. it's like a traditional painting simulator, maybe they should have a certain waiting time for types of colors to dry aswell ? LOL

bleh, not just yet john...

Prom, awesome redesigns. I recall the those bunny things as being one of the more annoying creatures to kill. The Tektite especially looks cool (I forget what the other ones are called).

BTW, did you ever do any Blaster Master redesigns? I recall something about that from a while ago....

anyways:

Bad pose ruins it all.

Edit: Ted> I never scanned my BM designs. Got a lot of thumbnails stuffed in binders. And it's Gohma, not Tektite Smile I think they're related though.

flush: LOL still, i think that not having a color picker, it's a bit like having a magnificent sport car with an engine limited to 20km an hour.
the fact of testing that artrage thing, did make me realise how infuriating traditionnal painting was in the first place! made me remember these dirty hands, gouache and acrylics spilling on the desk, airbrushes to clean, gesso medium, ..... souvenirs. i'll go back to it when my heart will tell me to do so, and i'll stick to the digital thing for a while. let's say 20 or 30 years. Shocked besides, there's not time left in our miserable life.

a strict 30 minutes sketch while listening to biosphere - substrata. ambient owns me.

imho if they dont inlcude a color sampler in Artrage, they should at least
add some easier form of color mixing. After painting in real media a while , the paint pallette gets sorted out more and more, and becomes easier as time goes to find back colors in the big mixed mess..

so maybe a color sampler is too easy, but then a colorwheel is too hard.

a realistic mix pallette maybe ? and instead of an RGB/HLS wheel only few "tubes" of paint with main colors !
