great sketches !!!

are you sketching all your day ? are you free all the day or you have just some hours to do your work !

i would ask you an important question:
i'm trying to draw life drawing, but all i have is some photos over the net (i use poser to pose my model and try to draw it without trying to copy it carefully it's like 60 % from model and 40 % from what i learned from loomis)
what's it the real difference from drawing a guy in the same room or take his photo (not too close to avoid distortion of course) and draw it.
Note: there bo classes of life drawing in my country (of naked man or woman of course)

dzou>> Thanks. I do 3D model and Texture all day (10 hrs or more M-F) so I only have like couple hours to do some sketches or speedpainting in a day if I am lucky. Life drawing I always try to make it on the weekend. Very Happy

BIG Different from Ref and From life.
The biggest difference I have seen so far is "Weight shifting". When you are around the model, you see him or her move from pose to pose...long enough if you notice, especially in gesture. Notice how the model shift their weight from one leg to the other...or to the arm and hip or if the model is leaning on the props. Also you can see muscle taking shape, stretch,...and many things while it's moving. You can't get that from photos or poser.

Dimention and focal point you can pick and choose using your eyes instead of the already done photo. Also u have to make decision at the moment. Or you can walk around the model and pick whatever angel you want it from. Ane when you walk around...you notice the lighting changes from one side to the other.

SPEED...Unlike photo or posers, the model won't wait for u to get done with your drawing to changes pose, u must get it done in time.

Environment and peer, if u surround by many good artists, chances are you will get good to really good. Learn technique from veteran artists and watch how other artist do their things.

Also I notice in painting session...real life model skintone is much more color in it than in photo. Like if u notice cheek, forhead, chin, chest and arm of a nude model, you will see that they have different hint of hue to them. Most of the time in photo...we can hardly see it or hardly noticable.

There is much more to it that I can't really explaing or put them into words.

Also...great models can also make your drawing shine. Ballet dancers, dancers, gymnists are usually the best at gesture or shot poses...because they are in good shape and have strenght and flexibility to hold many interesting poses

Though drawing/painting from ref is not a bad thing to do. Most of the pros do it all the time. U can also learn different thing from good photo ref or any material. You can do both to benefit the best of any material you can get your hands on.

I hope I make some sense.

I called this done, but not really happy with the skintone so I will probably go back and fix it...but I will update the jpg again instead of posting new one.

Why don't you use your drawing and painting ability to make comics.
your paintings seems not detailed, is it your choice ?

keep on creating, your drawings is going better and better

dzou>> Thanks, I would love to do comics Very Happy But it doesn't pay as much nowadays..the job I have right now is way better...and great people/artists to work with. I am trying to create one slowly on my own time, but I am still trying to find the right direction for it to go....it will probably never finish...

Yes, my painting doesn't have any allover detail. Everyone in Speedpainting tough me a great deal on how to deal with painting. Let the eyes fill the rest of the pics itself. Plus, time wise...I don't have a lot of time in a day. I like detail stuff too, but I guess it doesn't fit my preference for personal stuff and the way I draw...unless I get pay for doing it then...I would. I will keep going...possibly some sequential art are coming soon.

Here is another crappy one:
Another speedy crap

Batgirl is a kewl pic. I would really be interested in seeing it coloured now. However, that suit doens't look very good when it comes to fighting crime, unless you plan on making them lust after you as you walk them to the police station.

hello Xia

I looked for the glenn vilppu's manual. Found it in the awn.com website. There is many articles. I'm not lazy to look after them one by one but i have a low connection and pics are loading very very slowly (not like others pics) So it take me an 1/2 hour to look for an article of 4 pages.
So, please if you saved them in your disk. It would be very very very gentle if you sent them (i've got only 4) or make them zipped on any adress you've got.

thank you

These sketches are all very beautiful, they look like the work of a true professional. I love all of the details in all of the clothing. I haven't been reading the posts, I've only been looking at the pictures, so forgive me if someone's already asked this question. Where'd you get the designs for the clothing? Did you come up with them yourself? Either way, you get some fantastic creative skills, you do fantastic work. You make the lines looks so effortless.
