i like your coloring. the background isnt good imho. really looks like u used photoshop filters. same wiv the lensflare in the sword. well maybe thats just me cuz i also dont like - if u ever watched digimon (digitation :O ) e.g. - the combination of 'computerish' looking graphics and 'comicish' .

looks like u used a dodge-tool or a simple white brush to add the highlights, thats not good :-/
Use warmer, more saturated colors for highlighting.

But the pic looks fine.

i tried spraying above them with a very light blue airbrush but that didnt seem to work right

VERY good for a first!
But it strikes me as if you used the burn/dodge tool a LOT. It creates that effect... I myself prefer sharper shadows at some points, especially with thicker lines like these used.

But overall - good job! Very Happy

i dont know why does it seem so but i didnt use the dodge or burn tools AT ALL Very Happy

i used an airbrush with 35% opacity and 15% pressure with multiply and screen to produce that effect but i guess that i overdid it a little Embarassed

also i didnt select areas to be shaded or highlighted i just used the brush on a seperate layer right on with no selection of the shade area itself (i only selected the WHOLE falt color area then worked on it with the airbrush adding a bit of shadow here or a highlight there)

again i ask .......
how can i use another color for highlighting/shading???
if i just choose another color the results look horrendous
is there a way to shade it AND THEN make it look as if there is a colored light source (or a different color for that matter) is lit on it??

i dunno but i think maybe i am not practicing enough with using another color to shade another color Rolling Eyes

Never Ever use lens flare unless your life depens on it. Otherwise very nice. Just remember the lens flare, dont use him no matter what he offers you. Hes like the rign, you want to use it but you really shouldnt! Smile

im not sure why dodge stuff shuldnt be used. I think it fits to this kind of style. But work on the eyes. Add pupils, even Mangas have one?!
And keep an eye on clean lineart.

Well yes the background isnt that bad, but maybe youl find a better one.

keep it up!

by the way, the way u colored that picture is exatcly the same way the (german only?) mickey mouse magazines are colored (yes with this "dodge/burn" look-a-like).
