What OS is it? Sounds like Windows2000 maybe, but a lot of OS's have similar things.

Basically it means "the computer has crashed and cannot recover". A core dump is a file that it creates with everything currently in memory (or something) so that someone with some knowledge can look at the core file and see where the problem is (programmers use it).

How to fix? Thats a tough one. But I guess you fix it the same way you fix any computer problem; keep trying stuff until it works.

There's no way I could limit the search for you. It could be anything from a hardware conflict to a single program that your computer doesn't like. It could be a program you're running, something sitting in your system tray, or maybe you need to install the service packs for your OS.

If you're not familiar with computer fixing it may have to be done by a shop. But either way it'd really help to try and work out what causes it and be able to do it on cue.

Row.

Hello there,

Everything Sumaleth said, but I just wanted to add one little thing. The part of finding the cause of the problems ... usually it is hardware drivers that cause these things ... the last one I had was from a dodgy tablet driver ... I re-installed the older version, and everything is running smoothly again ...

Try to think back to the first time you encountered the problem ... installed new hardware/software or anything like that maybe ??

I also must stress that if you are using pro-applications for graphics/3D like Photoshop et.al. then you REALLY should be using a pro-OS like NT/2000/XP-pro ... expecting consumer OS's (Win95/98/Me) to take the punishment just ends up being very disruptive and risky stuff.

But then ... you might already know this ...
