(From WIP: http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=35431)
A shot from matrix 3 that stuck in my mind.
Bin about 4 hours. It's had some changes since its appearance in speed painting. Probably will leave it now tho.

I think mostly what is wrong with are the major things: the sentinels apparently aren't attacking the mech yet he appears to take damage. He should really be blasting some sentinels clean out of their rather too-tight-too-solid formation, plus it could be more interesting with more going on besides what is going on at the focus.

Changing these things would be to draw a new and different (better) picture. Should have planned more but the 'plan' was a thoughtless 2 minute scrawl. No matter.. lessons have been learnt.

this is creepy. Seeing this subject, something I spent many months on.

This is just an idea how to get some depth on the sentinels. I like yours better because of the flat simplicity, it reads better, more massive.

i like it Fred. Well there is more depth in Spooge ones but no problem for you to change if you still like to spent some time on it. And as you said next image next chance Very Happy

i havnt seen the film because toooo many told me not to go. but maybe i should check out by myself just because of those countless effects.

By the way spooge, its tremendous to see you posting overpaints. good to learn good to see different ideas of a subjects appearance. keep up Wink

Perhaps a part of the stream should be shown in the foreground to understand whats in it...

I like the whole idea Very Happy

Oh my god spooge, that is wonderful!
and very valuable to me as a learner, thank you.
(when can we see your matrix handiwork?)

I should have been roughing in sentinels but instead I drew a fat stripe out of laziness, then noodled some generic thoughtless detail. And the bg, I see, can be made so much more alive. much appreicated.

see: yeah, might try to rework the sentinels.. after seeing how much better they could look.
And I must confess.. i loved the film Embarassed it had my eyes' full attention throughout the whole thing, the visuals Shocked but there you go, each to his own.
thanks for the kind words.

NeFF: yeah, could be right.. [shrug] I kinda like it as is tho. As for the idea.. can't take credit for that Smile but thanks all the same.

i have to agree with spooge - i like yours, fred, more. Especially if you think of an illustrative way.
Well, still spooge's is great as every of his work. Wink
So in the overpaint you really see whats goin on - in the original i first thought of some mining-worker(not yet seen matrix3 - only trailer)

I thought Revolutions was a huge leap up from Reloaded. I like the depth in Spooge's drawing, but I love the way the gunfire is lighting up its targets when it hits the Sentinels in the Capt's piece!

Great work as always guys.

As far as subject placements and viewpoints the two images are nearly identical. How much direction and specification did management give you two in order to expect you two to create something of such similarity?

uhh, cheney, I'm not exactly sure what your misunderstanding is, but I'm a 17 year old kid that likes to doodle, not a matrix 3 concept artist. And that is a paintover from spooge: it was produced in direct response to my fan-boy pic.

lol Rolling Eyes
it's all in the text.
