Matthew: I like the top one!
Nothing particularly interesting about this one, other than it was done entirely in Linux...
a little look at Photoshop 7 in linux for anyone who's interested: http://www.ccir.ed.ac.uk/~nanderso/snapshot1.jpg

Made a dumb no+ref head sketch in ps repeating old patterns and mistakes...
tried to simplify but should have spent more time with it making it less messy/taking the simplification longer, guess shadowside is bad/flat
edit: err sorry just one more quick doodle before I leave (if I can escape the gravitational field of the computer that is).

Well, I tried to represent the eyes of a good friend: MARISOL (which, by the way means in Spanish: Mary of the Sun).
In fact I hadn't noticed she had a so wonderful eyes' colour until one day we were eating in a nice restaurant and the last sun rays of the summer were lighting her in such a way that suddenly I realized her eyes were an unrenderable mix of browns, sienas, greens, yellows and I don't know how many more... I felt so shocked that I was urged to ask her what was the real colour of her eyes (yeah, she must have thought I am stupid, I know).
So, as I cannot draw her from life, here are her eyes from my memory...

paintangel: nice! but i think more contrast would be good....
are there any rules about what light does on skin? i did that study here and i just cannot understand where some colors and especially their crazy saturation-changes come from...
the hardest was to define the colors in the small wrinkles like between the fingers- they are small, but i was wondering about when i messed these colors up, it totally looked like shit...
it's my father, sleeping on "his" couch. he probably dies with this remote control in his hand one day. whoops, maybe not funny...

Has photoshop done a linux port, or are you using a windows emulator?
Either way, hows the stability?

i feel sorry XIA but I dont have any step by step thing. There are no "steps" like when i do a finished one. I shape first, but just the big things. Get the main idea to paper. I normaly use a round brush. 80% - 100% oppacity. Check if colors are fine , and move on with some funny brushes. Use selection tool . Thats it!
What about you Flushy?

Speed seems to be pretty good, not much lag at all. There's a version of the WINE emulator (it's not technically an emulator, but a re-write of the windows DLLs to run programs natively) called Crossover Office (www.codeweavers.com) where you can download a 30-day trial. But yeah, it's a little bit slower than the Windows version. Stability is excellent though. No crashes or anything, though it doesn't crash often in XP either. |
