Hello!

Since my friend and I might both be getting a new tablet - she doesn't have on e yet - and I heard of paint chats, we might want to try that stuff some time.

Does anyone know what exactly paint chat is, how it works, what you need to be doing paint chat stuff, and maybe some good sites where I could paint chat?

Any suggestions would be helpful

Maybe I can try to explain what I understand about it, but if anyone else has any more information, feel free to chip in.

Paint chat is basically a shared drawing board that can support several people at one time. All people logged in can draw at the same time, and usually the board is quite big so it can support several people as long as they don't make their drawings too large. Paintchat is a java program so it should be able to just run in your browser, and all you really need to pchat is a mouse, although imho it is more fun with a tablet.

There seems to be a newer version of the program floating around than what I'm familiar with, but the tools seem to be mostly the same. On the left should be the controls, the bottom is the chat box, and the rest is the drawing space which you can scroll around in. The tools are pretty general but they take some figuring out, I'd suggest messing around with them some time when it won't inconvenience anybody else.

For the rest, you can click on the tools to change them, ie pencil can change to watercolor. Eraser can change to the clear-all tool, so watch out when other people are drawing, haha. There is a color palette, and you can make your own color by adjusting the R G B sliders below the palette. the slider below the RGB ones, with the letter A, is for opacity. And then below that is the controls for brush size, and finally layer selection.

As for links to general p-chats...afraid I can't help you there. I don't know about google-ing up a pchat as some are rather private, maybe someone here can give you a link to a good public pchat.

Yes, I know about Open Canvas, I have version 2.24 or something.
It's actually free to download from the Open Canvas site

The thing is, the latest versions of OpenCanvas don't have the network ability. Why? Who knows why they'd take out one of the best features. So you'll have to get a much older (and more clunky) version of the program if you want to network paint with it.
