XIA: I liked those life-drawings a lot. They have a really nice structure to them.

Teach me. Embarassed

SPOOGE --> So that Baron pic started as a real pastel model drawing over wich you painted in photoshop ?

I remember a great image done by you of a Mech-style robot, heavily rusted, heavily worn surface, with a girl in the "cockpit", looking at the viewer. The whole has a olive-greenish-brown tint. That one.
How did that image start ? pure digital or with "base-layer" material ?

Gives me an idea....we should have a contest of "blockspeedpaintings"
--->everyone chooses a rough 3D "blockrender" image (no textures, no shadows...only raw basic lambert shaded blocks) from a list of numbered
images (block1.jpg, block2.jpg, block3.jpg...etc) and posts his result in here...

Must be nice to see everyones interpretation of the same raw, pure compositional 3D blocks.

Any 3D artist in here having some blockrenders ?

Maybe the same could be done with image-interpretation...

starglider, if I remember correctly, that was painted first in PS, then I laid a large scan of a WC (so the paper texture was apparent) and then removed with a layer mask to form the less rusted surfaces. Really the brushes in PS7 could do the same thing, but it would take more time.

this is Kurt Russel from that OK corral movie. Boy did he look nasty in these shots. Kinda ferral, feminine, feline all wrapped into one. Those eyes were just little triangles pointing at his ears.

thanks Spooge for your explanations !

Hehehe, Kurt Russel indeed has these tiny eyes in a big face. Did you see his angry face in "Backdraft" when he's argueing ?

Popeye>> Love it!

Matthew>> The last one of yours really rock and it really shows you have grown so much.

this place keeps getting better - the artwork here makes me feel like quoting Delacroix on Byron - 'He gives me an intense diesire to create!'

Here's a doodle for an idea I'm exploring.

posting this pic so I can say:

LOL Gux Very Happy. oDD: nice, cool, like it.
matt, you rule. Love your pics, especially those that relate to the Speed-paint thread.
vyle, nice pic. I love the girl in the background's shadowed foot, and that whole arrangement of feet and ankles. completely convincing feeling of space there.
Big LeBowsky that rocks, and so does your post, blankfrank, and deepsea, I love you life-drawings, they're so much more interesting (not to mention more accurate, better etc.) than mine, the marks you make. Mine are boring.

drawing of classmate during an art lesson. I didn't know what i supposed to be doing.

SpoogeDemon - Thanks for consistantly posting here...your work inspires me everyday to keep drawing. I'm posting the first one in hopes that you could give me some advice on where to take it and what might be wrong with it. Second one is for fun.

Wassup/hardcore/ great stuff.

Brokencow, aw shit, I just looked at the whole image again and I see breasts. Well, a cross dressing knight might be more interesting.

Watch the perspective on the head, make it follow. You might want to take some of the contrasty edges out of the BG in keys points so it doesnt try to become part of the figure. If I follow the set up here correctly, you have a strong point source warm key light with a diffuse cool overhead and warm bounce lighting from horizontal surfaces. Try to analyze what surface is being affected by what light source. I overdid this a little and that is why he looks metallic.

Hey, I think I will enter this fairy thing in that mystical women contest. I will lose, but that is OK.

spooge: I am just into work and I see your pics on my screen! Damn. You are inspiring and intimidating at the same time, like a great artist should be. Great work.

Cicinimo: thanks!

Capt Fred: thank you for your nice comments. I see life drawing only as training for realizing broader ideas. I need to be painting more (and start realizing broader ideas Confused ) .

(janne, nice sketches, I like the line quality).

SPOOGE ----> Your new "graphics-style" works nice ! A little Egon Schiele "flat-shapes" style
