I wanted to try Malachi Maloney's hair tutorial today so I decided to do this vixen's entire head.
The head is in 3 levels
The hair behind her ears
The head and ears
The hair in front of her ears
Worked out great don't you think?
This is the same vixen as the one from my website, just has a more updated look to the way I think she should look like.
More to come
C&C very welcomed
Jost

Reduced the volume of her hair
Made her teeth have more realistic depth
Aligned the axis of her eye openings
C&C very welcomed

Her head is skewed. Draw a line from the middle of her chin to the middle of the top of her head. See how the nose and upper jaw isn't in line? |

Drew: Not seeing your point... It looks pretty well aligned to me, and even if it didn't, the bottom jaw can be skewed if the mouth is open.
What seems to be wrong to me is that her right eye (our left) is still slanted upward too much. Level the eyes out, it will make the face look much more stable. Another thing that would help is giving the face some depth. Choose a light source and carry it through the entire body. The highlights on the hair and the shadow under the hairline suggests a light from above, so try darkening the bottom of her face slightly, or adding a shadow on her neck. And lastly, the jacket looks like it could either be vinyl or leather. If it's leather, tone down the highlights just a bit, especially around the collar. If it's latex/vinyl, use far less highlights and maybe increase the contrast. |

You're both right!
What this project suffers from most is an overly simplified sketch from what is was started with. As you can see I did some much needed alignment.
I will accentuate her face more with shading and I'll keep the leather vs. vinil in mind next time I attck this very educational project.
Thanks for the help,
Jost

Hey that's a really lovely chracter you've got there. Love the expression on her face. One thing, you're not finished with her are you? Cos her clothes still need more refinement in my opinion, as they look cartoony next to her head and chest.
Anyway, looking forward to see the updates! |

Thanks! I done many comics so maybe that is why I don't see that her clothes look cartoony, you may be right, just that I don't see it!
I post here to help me see further thus draw better.

It might help to add color in the highlights on the clothes (as she is in the desert give her some of those colors) since the material "seems" smooth and shiny enough to grab some color (enough to be visible to the eye anyways, besides black and white). But then again it might just be that light because of how bright u have it set and the area. (Just my opinion)
Bah it looks good though... I like it Nice hair n ears.
Keep up the good work! _________________ Meep meep |

Check out Google image search and look for "leather." They have tons of good photos of assorted leather in different environments. |
