antx, golem?
isric, impecible as usual
and saturn thanks! i spotted ed harris right away. his eyes look a little too beady though i think. great though, especially for a first portrait.
hmm well i decided to prove to myself that i could sort of paint, so i drew the only thing i had infront of me. my hand. and i scribbled in a little guy out of boredom. meh.

Klash, glad you like them! I have not done any pastels in about 6 months. I cant find em! They are around someplace. A few words about acrylics, I feel bad you spent so much money on the paints, you really didnt have to. The ones of Doug here are acrylic on WC paper. The money is best spent on good paper rather than a whole bunch of colors, but ill. Board works OK too. Stay away from cheap WC paper, waste of time and money. The Doug sketches below are done with black, gesso and burnt sienna. Dont use white paint, gesso is better. But really you dont even need white. Use the sienna for warms, cool it off with black or white, and use black and white mixed for cools. I think Zorn used something like this, but with a couple of more colors, probably more variation in lighter warms.
These are 20 minute sketches. Your butt cheeks clamp down at 20000 PSI and you sweat, think clear now, every second counts but every bad decision cost more. When I sit and think for one minute before I even start, I find at the end of the pose I have 5 minutes left (usually to ruin it, but thats fine cause that is how you learn) and a fresh sketch as well. If I start in right away in a panic, at the end of the pose I am still panicking but with a horrid mess that will never be right. I suppose the moral is think more, paint less.
Mmm love that arm, Isric.

You know, Spooge, what you leave out says just as much as what you put in. It's fantastic.

quickstudy from Whistler's Portrait of the Painter's Mother ( Arrangement in Grey and Black )
Do you people work in a completely dark environment when working on dark images ? my worst moments with digital are dealing with darks, usually.

I don't belong here.
These last few pages have made me so damn glad I'm not blind.
Gontaro: omg - post all the time please. I aspire to draw at that level one day and those are very inspirational.
Spooge: _____ _____ _______! !<---expletive exclamation
Ah crap, I'm late for work again because of you people. Shame on you. _________________ - Gimbal

Flushieeee, yumyumyumyum...those cheerleaders are dang hot! more! and the plane, just love such accident-thoughts, far more interesting than those precisely arranged pieces IMHO. i think painting shows ones thinking process, and through sketches like this i almost can feel yer pulse tittuppin ... well you know what im trying to say
ah, did this just for posting crap above...sorry
