I've tried Litestep multiple times, and the newer builds are the best yet. Quite stable. However, I can never stand to run it for long.. it still has to many problems, and lacks a lot of functionality here and there.

Another nice shell thats not quite as customizable, but damned nifty is SharpE. Check it out at http://www.lowdimension.net

It's really quite stable. Even downloads the latest core component updates for you if you ask it to. The new version of the desktop component will definately make it one of the best shells out there.

I've used litestep quite a bit and done some extensive coding for it... but as aqua said, I can never stand it for long times... it's just too much work to even add a new link to the desktop... since there's no template feature for buttons or anything like that (you have to make them in photoshop and import them to paint shop pro or something like that if my memory serves me)...

And the wharf feature pisses me off to no end, but they seem to have improved that by leaps and bounds now... you never know... it's definately worth trying out if you're a customization junkie like the rest of us
