Though the artwork quality suffered in general in the later years, at one time Gameart hosted the artwork and words of people like Craig Mullins, Steven Garofalo, and other awesome game artists. I'm sorry to see this one go.

Since that old site is gone, Sijun might be the oldest art community on the net now.

I'm one of the direct victim of Gameart's demise, because my website was hosted by them. Yesterday I was searching for a new host and I had to translate French to English word by word to register for an account, just because it's the only other web host that offers big enough space for me.
I'll miss them.. |

hi all,
took me some time to figure my old user/passw to post here, although i read this daily.
as for the gameart site, we have always considered it a hobby and of course we knew that other 'formats' like this forum have become more popular in the past, which is a normal (and good) evolution. the whole website was for fun, no revenue ended in our pockets because it was just too small under the gsi 'payment plan'. but that wasn't a problem, we were never very interested in stats and in 'stealing' traffic from sites like gfxartist and 3dpalette. unlike some of you may believe, the relation between us and those sites wasn't bad at all. after they went down last year we had a mailing list thing going on, trying to help each other out... the thing was called 'creationstrom' network and included some other sites as well. we were, and still are, very sad to see those sites not being reactivated in some form.
so, the bottom line is that the gameart is (most likely) going down for good. we would love to keep it as reference... but we're sure that *if* no solution presents itself, we will find a way to at least get that spotlighs and stuff online elsewhere (ben it won't all be lost, even if the site is shutdown tomorrow, i'll keep in touch and offer whatever files someone needs trough this forum. despite the fact of the (c) by gameart on the bottom of the page, the content is, and always has been, 'public domain' respectively (c) by whoever made it. |

Keto: I am the one who led you to Gameart.com? How come? I'm just curious.
Anyways, my new host is French, it's free and offers 100 mb (way too much for me). The only bad thing about it is that random banners will appear on top of my page from time to time. Not only they're freaking huge, and they're in french. Now who wants to read that? |

Hey Braindead!
Sorry that gameart is closing. I just wanted to say thank you to you and Nop for hosting me for over a year.
I ended up purchasing a domain.
I changed the name to mindsiphon and I changed the look of it bit.
www.mindsiphon.com
Best of luck to both you and nop! |
