I've seen a lot of people post their music and stuff on here so I was hopin that I could get some help on a few things for Fruity Loops. I just got the program 2 days ago and have read over some online tutorials and stuff so I know very generally how to use the program and put together a song.

The problem I'm having is getting those generic trance sounds. What synths/fx should I be using? Another problem is getting a solid beat down. Everything I make sounds really mushy and 'bass'ed up. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey

Hard to say really, would be easier if you posted a song or sound so we could suggest some things.
I for myself use a lot of reverb and sometimes delays and stuff.
Also if you use a bass sound or whatever you can make it a higher tone to sound more like a synth, if the standard key on your instrument is A5 you can change it to A4 or A3 to get a more synth like sound.
btw I use persynth a lot, cant remember in which section that instrument is but look them through and you should find a instrument called persynth.

Beat is another thing, I used to play drums and such so I like to have a beat that changes and with a difficult beat you make the song or songs sound more interesting to listen too.
If you are gonna make a beat with more trance, techno, you should have a beat that has first beat bass drum, and third hi-hat and fifth bass drum and snare together and then repeat it, well ....hmmm, hard to explain really.
Hope anything of it helped and let me know if you want some more help.

see you. :)
Matthew

Thx! I'm really strugglin with getting a good kick drum/bass drum sound mainly. and i don't have a place to host so... the type of kick i want to get is something like the one at the beginning of Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun [Tiesto RMX] and i really don't like the idea of sampling. I've read a lot of comments about getting a good kick drum on other message boards and stuff and they all talk about creating/ combining sine waves and cutting certain frequences away but none were very specific about how to go about doing that, and I am really a complete newbie. hey

I can check up the song and see if I can get a similar sound but I cant promise anything, then I can post the sound and tell you how I did but as I said I am not a pro so I cant promise anything but I shall try. :)
Oakenfold beat can be tricky to do in Fruityloops.

see you

Hey again, I am not sure if this can be any help at all but I hope so.
I am showing one of the patterns from one of my songs, it is the mainDrum pattern and you can see where I have marked the Hihat, snare and Bassdrum. the beat is 137 and the pattern is 8 beats long.
The Hihat, Snare and Bassdrum makes the ground beat and I have also added some slaps and other stuff to make the beat a little bit more fuller but my song needs some more work to it.
But if you use the ground beat you have something to build on later.
If you wanna have a good bassdrum sound just pick a soundsample that has a big bounce in it and then add some effex on it, like reverb and maybe one echo Delay ( you have to be careful with delays on drums thou ).
I am adding one of my newest songs and you can see what it sounds like

Heres the pattern picture:

Heres the song with a techno like beat:

Hope anything of it helped :)
see you
