Here's the view of the olympic mountains from my house. I used a daytime photo to get the correct siluoettes since I can't see this from my computer. I'm having some difficulties with the water. Right now it's just a cheap blur. I've tried adding some texture to it but I can't seem to pull it off. Any suggestions welcome.

its a really nice drawing. this is awesome if its really the view from your hosuse.
what bothered me is not the water, but the visibility. everything is too visible in your drawing. normally you wouldnt see those far greyed mountains that sharp from that distance.
what might be doing this is lack of focal point in your drawing or toom uch visibility. maybe add some fog back there in the distance.
about the water texture, i wouldnt touch it. it looks very pleasant and calm as it is and its nice this way ;]
good luck |

Hmm, I see your point about the visibility. I was drawing this at sunset and I was running back and forth between my computer and the deck and I'm pretty sure the visibility is accurate. Sunsets will bring out the mountains pretty good.
However, real life sometimes doesn't look so real so maybe adding some more low clouds might help. Originally I wanted to draw some navy ships that were out there but my digicam was out of juice Hopefully I'll catch some tonight.
Thanks,

Hmm... Maybe blur/smudge the clouds a bit more, because right now they look a lot less smooth than the mountains ( and mountains should look more rough than clouds ). I think this is really an awesome picture though. Personally, I wouldn't add navy ships... It would ruin the peacefulness of it all. |
