It's too blurry I guess. There's a sketchy look to it.
I guess most people look at it and something bothers them, but they can't tell what it is.
So they don't reply.
I think it would look more interesting if it wasn't that symmetrical.
Also the lighting seems wrong.
Don't the image tags work? Having to visit a link is something not everybody likes. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Not just more detail ... I think you should read tutorials and threads.
Add more details in the areas of interest
... but that doesn't mean more lines.
Sometimes you can suggest details by simplifying
Try to define the form using values.
I think it's your approach that makes it look blurry.
Try to paint with normal hard brushes with different opacity.
Try not to use smudge or dodge/burn tools.

Try to look at reality as much as you can, and think how you would paint it.
Most people starting out put too much information in things, making shapes that make logical sense but not visual sense. The shaded side of the building and the ground, for instance, there is no indication of it. Your mind knows that it is there so you might want to indicate it, but it would jump out at you.
Also look at where the legs and ground meet. nuthin there. this is largely a thing of deep shadow. In the light, things should separate.

I'm not sure but I think the image he was talking about was:
this one
Btw you can edit your first post and show the image there.
Maybe there will be more helpful replies later. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

this is just a opinion...
the smoky blue stuff on bottom.. i think u can make it look better if you make it look like the smoke is coming from him and not going at him. see the link to see what i mean..

I think it's the smudge tool! Exactly!
You shouldn't use the fancy Painter brushes when starting out.
Try to get it right with normal round brushes. There's a good example in the speedpainting thread
http://mywebpage.netscape.com/probustion/nude.jpg
hope Probustion doesn't mind.
Always use the biggest brush possible for what you want to paint.
http://www.robertocampus.com
(It's a Painter Tutorial but the approach should also work in Photoshop)
Then start experimenting with custom brushes in Photoshop.
Painter brushes won't help as long as you don't know what you are doing. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

It took me a few examinations to realize that this is actually a pretty interesting concept. It didn't grab me at first, which is why you probably didn't get many replies. What I think it is is that you have a very dramatic scene, but no lighting to convey that. You have some very strong light sources (each arm), and a secondary source on the bottom (blue swirl), but none seem to be having any effect on the character. I did a quick paintover to show what I mean... Sorry if I totally missed the point of what you were aiming for. (Keep in mind that my lighting is technically very wrong, but I'm just trying to show how use of lighting can contribute to the mood of the piece)
Also, don't be afraid to stray from the smudge tool. Be daring and lay down your strokes with the brush. It's a little less safe, but definitely creates a more solid piece in the end. |

Oh, and one more thing... I also recropped it for a more cinematic feel. I think your cropping was a little too broad and lifeless. Just a personal preference, I guess, but I thought it needed to be trimmed down slightly. |

what should i say....i love my own picture and i didn't paint it this way...your are right when you say..in these picture were no "dramatic" or something this way...now..it is my opinion ...it is more"action"--life in these picture..
It is unbelievably what happends when you change the lights.
I took this picture and my old "finished" picture and it is so different..
thx to see what could be...it is astonish what you did without the original file.
i think i have understand what you mean..i will try to take it for my other pics.
I must revise the other pictures then also again*g*
here are some sketches and startet pictures...don't watch the light..i must do it again*g*, if you wanna see it.

It's looking really good. You've made a lot of progress. But keep in mind where your lights are coming from, shade accordingly. Don't shade just for the sake of shading. You have two lights of equal brightness on each side of him, he should logically be lit equally from both sides. But it's looking pretty damn cool right now, it packs a lot more punch than the original did. Nice job. |
