Comments, critiques welcome.
And here's my original concept sketch, if anyone's interested... Done in pen.

Hey Tinusch, Really nice, I like the vibe you have going on Smile
Very fairytale-ish. My only crit is that maybe it would be a stronger piece if you included more trees in the background? Or just added something in to give it a sense of environment?

Anyway, really nice stuff. I also think that it suffers a lot from the JPEG compression you've used, there are artifacts all over the place! But that's just a matter of resaving the PSD Smile

I love the feeling you have captured Smile It's .. 'fluffy' and mystic for a lack of better words.

My crit would be perhaps give something more to look at in the environment. Perhaps make the ground more rugged and worn, have the tree interact with the ground intead of just popping out of it (like pushing sod around and to the side). It's rather cold and flat.

Thanks a lot. I've showed this to a few people and no one else seemed to understand the mood I was going for. I was aiming for a warm, hazy, dreamy fairytale scene. Hopefully I captured it somewhat. I agree, it is a little barren and shallow. I did this one really quickly just as an experiment:

Oh, and JasonN, do you have any specific tips for compressing it? I think I saved it at level 8 for size reasons, is there something else I should be doing?

cool stuff. some crits tho, i think that the sketch is acually better than the painting. i suggest using that shape instead. also i think there should be more contrast in the foreground. nice piece tho.

Hey Tinusch, I like the sketch a lot more too. I like the contrast from the bright background colour silouhetting the tree Smile
As for the quality I have no idea. You already put it at 8? Shocked
Does it still look the same when you move it up to 10 or 12?

It looks pretty much the same at 10... It only goes up that high, though. I assumed the artifacts were just due to the very low contrast of the image.
