This image was not intended as a self-portrait, I'd originally just chosen a photo of myself because of the interesting light and shadows in the image.. but after three hours of work she ended up looking exactly like me.

The point of this painting was to work quickly and have fun, concentrating on color, light and texture rather than obtaining a super smooth finish. I'm really happy with the end result.. I had a lot of fun, I hope it shows Smile.

very fine image, I like this peacefull feel to it and the expression suits the image very well. I also like that you used sharp shadings.

not really critiques from me.

merlyns - Thank you :)

gogan - Yup it's the light :).. when I took the photo I was squinting a bit and I could hardly see anything because the sun was shining directly in my face. Thanks for the feedback :)

Very nice. Very soft and relaxing, except for the background which I think is a little too harsh. Maybe some softer pastel colors would work a little better, or maybe an actual background of an interior scene with some warm lighting or something. Anyway, I really like the face, very well rendered.

Very nice, Harmony, this is my favourite of what you've done so far. The looser strokes actually make it more realistic, albeit in a looser, more relaxed way. I like! Smile

Tinusch - Thank you :). I like your pastel idea for the background, I'll have a play with it and see what I can come up with.

.eleni. - Thanks Eleni :) I'm with you.. I much prefer the looser strokes. I did an airbrushy piece last week and it didn't turn out very well, I guess I'm more of a texture girl. Glad you like it!

cjd - Thanks heaps :)

PhatTexta - Thank you :)

Matthew - Ah, thanks Matthew :). I'm glad you liked the speedies too, they were fun, although I realise now I'm going to have to post much better quality work in that thread.. the pics there are pretty amazing.

Tomasis - My ref pics are somewhere in a directory with over 700 figure references and I don't have time to find them, but if you need your own reference material for figure drawing you might find this site helpful - www.fineart.sk
