Hi, all. The daughter of a woman in my art class wants to buy one of my drawings. I've never sold anything of mine before, so I'm wondering how much to sell it for. I'm sure this has been asked a hundred times before, so I'm sorry. But if you could let me know how you all go about pricing your stuff, that'd be great. Thanks.

I'm guessing this is for traditional.

Add up costs (paper, pens, paint, etc..)

Figure out how much you'd like to work an hour (I'd say at least start at about 20 an hour.) guess about how many hours you worked on this image for.

Add on a bonus if you want.

Most of my stuff I wouldn't sell for under 300.

Thats indeed a very good question, I know theres not an answer like "sell it for 500 bucks", but Id be more than interested in how to handle pricing too.

How much does your "name" matter or how is it with digital stuff, how do you price stuff thats digital printed but still limited etc.

Some people with experience please give us some answers! Ill love you for it Very Happy

I cant give any examples of my artworks right now as I dont have any webspace right now, but Ill do so in the near future.

Also how about photography? How much could one sell prints of photography for?

Thank you alot in advance!

It's however much you'd feel comfortable parting with it. If that's, "oh, well - i don't really care for any of my pieces! hahah, you can have it for $10." Then so be it...but think about down the long run. can you buy all new art supplies used to make that painting on $10? Not really. (sure, we might be talking digital painting, but then there's hordes of printer cartriges and over-sized glossy paper).

I set a base price of $100. Nothing shall steep bellow.

Let's make some examples.

Base Price: $100.
Cost of paint used on that picture: $80.
Cost of a new camel hair brush: $24.
Cost of the canvas: $5.
Cost of the frame: $40.
Cost of parting with it: $20.

The picture is worth: $271.

"The daughter of a woman in my art class"...?

Frankly, I'd feel overly pretentious if I didn't give it to her for free...

henrik: don't feel that way... I sold four paintings to one of my teachers after my show was done, as well as a few tiny doodles to a classmate of mine for like 50 bucks.

specially when he said this: "wants to buy one of my drawings"

Thanks for the replies, all. I'm not sure how much 50 quid is, Loakers, but we decided on $100.

English say quid, Americans say buck. I think 50 quid is like 75 bucks
