Well it was going to be just a self portrat and master copy but this took me too long to just post in the self portrat thread so I figured it deserved its own thread. If you wondered why I haven't been posting self protrats for ages this is why Smile.

thats a very nice painting, the character and the horse are very detailed, wich brings me to my main critique; the background its seems very undetailed maybe you wanted that way.

another thing is his face he seems a bit cross-eyed I think it would add something to the painting if you gave him a bit more expression, as in more anger maybe?

but still the painting is very nice!

hope my comments helped a bit

Hello

This is a very nice painting, Wow, I saw it in the work in progress too.
I dont like to crit these kind of nice paintings but there are a few things that I am wondering about.
There is a black thing behind the horse legs that I cant figure out what it is, a catapult or something being thrown through the air, or?
At the same time it looks like the person behind the horse legs to the left is flying.

Nevertheless a very good painting, I wish I could make strokes like that. :)

One thing I forgot to mention is that I have been doing this after work in the evenings with very little light. when I first saw the ref that I was copying in the sunlight I saw that there was much more detail which I hadn't seen due to the bad light. All this means my copy is missing lots of stuff from the original :/

merlyns: I guess I was losing concentration a bit when I finally got around to doing the background :/. Also I have a closeup of the figure but none on the background so it is easier for me to see the detail in the orignal. I might do some more work on the face it isn't great but I got to the stage where I just wanted to finish th damm thing Smile.

Tomasis: I would have learn't more if i would have been copying it from a better reference and in oils but I think it was a consructive exercise all the same Smile.

Matthew: That object is a flag and it is being waved by the person who is flying (I think). You are right it does need some work on though. I was rusing the piece towards the end :/. If I get some time I will go back and fix it.

Thanks for the replies eveyone.
