Ive been having a real fan/noise problem with my PC lately, so today I went and bought a real nifty new case which cuts down the noise considerably but my CPU fan is still a real noise maker.
the CPU fan runs at about 30dba and for anyone who hates computer noise thats like having a jet engine in there... so I need advice again. Im looking for a CPU fan for an Athlon 1.4ghz up to Athlon XP 2800 or so.... and I need it to be 20dba or less. Anyone have any advice?
thanx in advance. |

I've got a SuperSilent Copper TC in mine, about 20euros and it's listed to make 10db... I wouldn't know 'cause I can't hear it

well what kind of fan is in there right now? it's not supposed to be that loud -- maybe the grease in there got burned up and the bearing dug bits or hot spots on the wall?
mmmm --- wouldnt know bout the fans. theres a whole buncha review sites on the net though. _________________ AIM: EviLToYLeT |

I went all out and got a Koolance water cooled tower after putting in a fan that ran at like 45 something decibels... it was retarded. This box however is virtually soundless... what I hear the most is the hard-drives spinning... other then that there's just the occasional pleasant drip sound =)
oh, and I lowered the cpu temperature from 78 degrees celcius to about 25-30 with this box... warmly recommended _________________ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? |

strata - that seems like an good investment, do they last for a long time or do you have to change water and stuff like that? Could find any info about that on the link you posted.

matthew: so far it's been absolutely top notch. At the bottom of it there's a container (it's a closed system) in which you put ionized (or something... ehm... T-gul) water mixed with Koolance' own liquid. This helps keep algae and growth inside the system away. This water is tapped out through a hole at the bottom of the box, and is thus replaced every 6 months.
Other then that Koolance say to run it just like a normal computer... if you want to keep it on 24/7, that's just fine and dandy.

strata - Wow Cool thank you. :)
I remember when I first heard about the liguid stuff a couple of years ago and it sounded like pure science fiction and I think it still is. :)
Nice picture there over your system, I think the liquid will come in handy when the computer is on all the time as you said.
Thank you

there's much worse than liquid cooling systems today... check out something called vapo-chill or something like that... you actually freeze your motherboard to like minus 6 degrees celcius or something... they say it increases performance by up to 60%... totally wickety wickety whack _________________ Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari? |

I've heard some good things about those vantec aeroflows, with the tmd fans... I'm pretty sure they make one for the amds (and they're fairly cheap)
awetopsy: you don't know how many people have said that.... there are a few problems, condensation, and that the beer fridges aren't meant to deal with a constant heat source. (they can't handle the heat....yo!)
if you've got money to spare, SLK-800 (I think thats the amd one..) and a fan of 'good nature' should provide a fair amount of silence, but the slk's are RATHER EXPENSIVE.
o yea. Dell's suck. |
