heya.. it looks really good. the sketch and the coloring. looks like you know your way around ;]/
i didnt really understand your first question, but about the second one.. try airbrushes and paintbrushes al low opacity. i think also that your shades and shaddows could be darker, and your highlights could use more light ;] to give it more depth.. |

Well, I htink one thing this really needs is some variance on both hue and tone.
When making your shadows and highlights, don't just grab a lighter/darker version of your base color...pick a *new* color.
When you add your highlights, grab a nice rich yellow.
When you make your shadows, go for a deeper red or brown, or even slip into a little blue for the really deep shadows.
Also keep in mind the environment - if you plan on having a background at some point, remember that the colos around the object will work there way into the object - especially in the shadows.
The scales could be a little tedious. What I would probably do for starters is simply throw in some faint sahdows from the scales...just the darker edges, and skip the total form and the highlights. Once you get a decent spattering of shadows, you could toss in an occasional highlight.
Just make sure to keep it subtle - you don't want the outlines of scales dominating this image. |

cool!!!!!!!!!
i think your pencil sketch is awesome! and i agree with everything everyones suggested thus far, since i dont really know how to use colours properly (to paint =_=).. but i certainly learned a thing or two from your post!
thanks for that, and keep up the great work!
get the deeper values deeper/darker, and add some liquidy highlights to the scales? diff flesh tones around the nech area or something? i think it looks fantastic anyway.. esp with the background ;p |
