I'm continually trying to add more stuff here for you guys as quickly as I can! I hope that you enjoy the work. Let me know if you do and especially if you don't. I appreciate all comments.

Thanks,
Kevin

Batmobile

Blade Bike

Batmobile02

Tank

Gun
Medium:Markers, Black pencil, and white gouache
Added 3.10.03

Bruce Waynes Ride

Just thinking what Bruce might drive if he were to drive. Just for fun!
Added 3.13.03

Orion

This is a motorcylce design that I started as a sketch when I worked for Honda designing motorcycles. I just happened to complete and finalize the design now. I thought that they would have mocked it when I was there so I never showed it to them, but I'm showing it here now.
Added 3.17.03

Cart

Added 3.22.03
This was done for Honda Indy Cart project. It was to be a futuristic cart design that was ran on an electro magnetic track that the cars would levitate on. They are also turbine jet propelled. The signature you see on the top is Bobby Rahals. He signed my drawing since I put him in it with his sponsor.=)

Mazda

This was done for Mazda. I was trying to base the design on hydrodynamic forms. I chose what I thought was the most graceful animal in the sea, the Dolphin.
Added 3.24.03

ATV

Added 3.25.03

300ZX

Older qouache reflective study
Added 4.2.03

Darklands
Added 4.3.03

Chase
Added 4.12.03

Darklands
Added 4.16.03

Sandman
Added 5.8.03

Flea

This was done for an animation company's demo reel. The premise was to show character animation. This flea was reciting Don Corleone's lines from the Godfather. It was too literal. The final design is below.

Brando

Diablo

Speedy
Added 6.27.03

Strag
Added 7-2-03
Line drawing by Mark Pajarillo, rendering by me! Mark is an awesome artist! Happy that we know each other and hopefully will be working together more. My fingers are crossed!

Raver
Added 7-16-03

02
Added 7-18-03

Truck

Added 9-21-04

Geist - Sega

Stuff I did for the Sega Dreamcast, man I'm getting old! The game never made it to the shelves but at least I got a couple of pieces I liked!

Catwalks

Centiq

Added 9-21-04
I named it Centiq because I sketched this on the Wacom Centiq. What an awesome tool! I need one and so does everyone else!

Ghostrider

Added 9-27-04

Copter

Added 9-27-04

Bimmer

VTR 1000

Gunmetal-Orange

Airforce One

This design was done using all scrap images that I had of aircraft and aircraft parts. The main part of the body is mainly the body of a huey. The front suspension are pieces of a landing gear. The rest is just more plane junk and some motorcycle pieces, but it's about 99% aircraft. I hope you like it.

Of course it's allright to show non digital stuff here.
Especially if it's as sweet as your Batmobile design there Smile

Very sweet indeed. I'm curios. Which kind of pens do you use for making that metallic reflective surface?

Looking forward for more from your hand. Smile

Damn that's sweet. Have you made any other views?

Also be interesting to get a glimpse of your technique, how you did it.

Just keep em coming.

Thanks for your compliments, I'm glad you guys like it and I'll post more stuff. I have a blade motorcycle done in the technique. This one is really simple, as easy as it gets.

You'll need to make a trip to Art Center in Pasadena if you can and get yourself a pad of Vincent Vellum. It's the only paper I know of that can get this look with this technique.

After I do the line drawing on this paper I turn it over and fill the whole car body with a black marker on the back. This gives me a 50% on the front side. Then I use black marker on the front to delineate all the detail, darks, cast shadows, and window reflection. After that I get a black primacolor pencil and verithin pencil and continue to shade the darks and finish off the line work.. I then get a white primacolor and start shading in the light shading and linework. After that it's just highlight in white gouache and adjust in photoshop. It's pretty simple, fast and effective if you can use this technique. It would definitely be the technique I would use if I were to have to render Batman too. It's probably my favorite technique because I'm very fond of using pencils. Another great thing about the paper is that it gives you all the great texture. One other way to use this technique is to use black Nupastel powder mixed with babypowder, the more baby powder the better and smoother it goes on. Who thinks of these mixtures? I don't know but I'm glad they found it. But take that on a Webril cotton pad and use it for you dark shading. After you do one layer, marker fix it with Blairs Marker fix or Krylon's and let it drie. To get it darker, apply another coat. You can keep doing it till it's pitch black if you want. But use it sparingly, the marker fix that is.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes, I'm an artist for a reason. Hehehe

I haven't gotten any replies lately and was wondering if you guys want to see more stuff. The new one I added was a study to do a design for a military style vehicle. Hope you guys like it. Looking for any crits you guys might have to improve what I've already done, or if you guys even have a request for something that I could do.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hell yeah we want to see more stuff Smile I like your pics a lot - all the more so because they're not digital.

As far as crits are concerned, I'm not overly enamored with the lensflare on the batmobile, and that black wall to the right disrupts the sense of speed since it reinforces the vertical border. Other than these minor points, though, great work.

Sorry about the images not showing up. I bought upto 100mb of transfer on my image site and thought it would be enough but it doesn't seem to be. I'm going to have to downsize my images I guess. Again sorry bout that. I promise to fix it by the end of this week.

Sorry if you stopped by earlier today and saw a bunch of black X's. My image hosting site went down earlier, but I think it's working now again.

UkiTakuMuki: Thanks, I'm glad you like the work! You are right, the Batmobile does have a feel of Giger in the mechanical bits. It wasn't intended though. I'll say it was. Hehehe

The secret to making a reflective car look shiny is to have dark cores and leave a stark white between the core and reflection.

Thanks again for your kind words. Hope you will the new stuff to come.

I'm going to try to post as many vehicles that I can till I run out, then I'll start to post some characters and evironment stuff.

There's a lot!

Poster Idea

At one time I was seeing if there might be a market for selling prints of my work. It was just a thought. I wanted to know what you guys thought about it after seeing my work. Would it be something that you would be interested in? Of course I would make it more presentable with some graphics and stuff. Let me know truthfully. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Kevin

Certainly, Kevin.

I love your style of concept/vehicle art. It's an intersting blend of traditional concept design and some elements of a Giger-esque biomechanical look. It certainly stands out from the crowd.

At least three of the pieces you shown so far would be of interest to me as posters/prints.

Please let us know if you start accepting orders for any such items.

Hi Lightbringer,

I'm glad to hear it, why don't you let me know which ones you would like and I'll make those the first ones. I'll set it up and then point you to it.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks Johan_san. It does mean a lot to me what others think of my work. I really have no ego as I know from experience that there are so many people better then myself. All I have to do is get online and go to the many sites or just look here in this forum. I know that I'm not where I want to be artisically. There is still so much for me to learn and improve on. As artists I think that we will never be happy where we are and that we always strive to be better. I know my weaknesses and where I need to improve. Till then I'll keep drawing and always keep an open mind to any criticism given as I know that it can always be better.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hey Folks,

Sorry I haven't updated lately, things have gotten a little hectic with deadlines and other life type matters, but I got a little time today to add something new. I'm throwing up a couple of digital images.

I'm starting to play more with Photoshop lately. I'm getting happier with the results and trying to find the right feel of looseness and tightness in my images. I don't know if you guys want to check out pieces as I'm working on them but I can post them if you like. Let me know.

Perhaps by posting images in the process of being painted, you guys might see how I'm approaching these new digital images. It's a lot of testing right now.

I'm thinking that I should try to get tight with my images, about the quality of my traditional art, then loosen up from there. I had trouble trying to figure out where to start which has hindered me some, but I just figured I should start it like I do any other traditional piece. With that in mind it did help to get me to a place that I'm comfortable with as a starting point then I moved forward from there. This is all a new learning process for me so I also thought to just do what I know and render it that way also in Photoshop, getting and tweeking Photoshop to the way that I already know how to render.

So I'm scanning in loose sketches then just start painting from there. I feel that if I just start painting in PS as much as I can, that it will be mileage with the Wacom that will get to learn it faster, and develop my own unique look with it.

I'm not shooting for a Goodbrush or anyone elses style, more trying to plug my style into PS and see what comes out. It's been interesting to see that it has this looseness underneath the tightness. Maybe there's something there, perhaps not. Only time will tell.

Anyhow, let me know if you guys want me to post images as I'm working on them. Perhaps then you can give suggestions to an image that is in progress and it will be easier for me to make the changes during that time.

Take care,
Kevin
