Hello all! long time no post! I don't have alot to show but I have to give some sign of life don't I?

Here are some concept sketches I made for Starbreeze studios here in sweden www.starbreeze.com (pssst, those small pics below the logotype are all made by me, their pictures of characters made by Tom Fritzon and Pelle Tingstrm )

The projects I'm making concepts for are really cool, too bad I can't talk about them.

This is a concept sketch for another project, the ida isn't mine, I got a sketch made by Joakim Hellstedt wich I further developed a bit.
It's supposed to be pyramids wich contains cryo chambers wich are pulled out by the big claw/crane (I wonder how they will solve that hehe)

Perspective is off here and there, but I din't care much, somtimes I just have like 1 or 2 days to complete a concept from scratch, I wish I had more time to think think think think think think and then paint.

You might think these pics look a litle spooge wannabe'ish, but that was what they wanted, "do it like Mullins do it like Mullins", they said, so for an example, in the mountains pic I used a textured brush and sprayed over the cloud base (top right of image) and then erased some of it by painting with a large soft brush. and the 2 guys in there are the good old "silouette" men with some light on the shoulders and head, (I love it when he does that Wink )

Very nice sketches John, The atmoshpere is very nice in these and I am particularly fond of the rain (both the water rain and rain of arrows Smile.

Perhaps, in the picture with the robotic arm, it would be picking up a little more cyan from the lamps and cubicles. And i get the oddest sensation that the castle walls are slanting inwards. Perhaps the castle gates could be opened too?

It looks awesome though i'm going to be a jerk now and point out that it would be more likely that the castle had been built on top of the hill instead of at the foot of it. because it's easier to defend higher locations (try having a snowball fight with someone sitting on the roof of a 3 storey building and you'll see why). Keep up the awesome work.

I am totally impressed.
I feel so honoured to lay my eyes on your artworks.
....it's awesome to say the least!

I truly remember those arrows in one of Mr.Mullins's pictures.
Your arrows in the first pic look like them.
I especially love the lighting on them.
The second pic is the totally contrary to the first one.
Lonely, unadorned and wet - hehe
The whole atmosphere in your pics is masterful.
And you have choosen a greatly colorsheme!

Those little images from the site are from you?
I'd pay 1000USdollars for each to see the bigger version.

Great stuff!

Amazing pictures, and I admire your honesty in conceding the spooge influence. The skill you show in these pictures convinces me you could be producing very good work even if you hadn't been requested to create 'Mullins-a-like's.

hey there Captain.

I actually followed Starbreeze for years with the game Enclave and maybe I have said that before to you. Today I played the demo of the game Enclave at my parents place, a demo I downloaded from fileplanet and which couldnt be played on my computer but it could played on my little brothers computer. Smile The textures in that game is awesome and the game itself is also awesome. Will the full version be released for PC? I saw you had some problems with one of the sponsors for the PC version.

The concepts is awesome and I especially like the Cryo Chamber picture.

Me and Max talked about the lighting that you and Spooge are using in your scenes. How do you know when to use white crisp light? and when to use more of the blurry light?
Is small white strokes used when the light directly hits the surface?
Kind of referred to the Train you added in the Chem Train Thread. That picture is very good.

I would love to work on the Starbreeze team.
.....Maybe in a couple of years. Smile

have a nice day
Matthew

Heya all thanx!

Novecaptain: hehe when time flies you kinda paint so much the cyan disappears, i promise it was there I swear! Wink

it's a shame that the fortress attack pic ended up that way, I was almost half done when I notices that the guys on the ground were running down a hill, wich is good for them but very bad for the dudes in the fortress, I think it was my auto-composition thing in my head that just made me paint them down towards the right corner.

Max: Yes the arrows! I was so impressed that they really looked like arrows even though they were straight brushstrokes or something like that, very simple and convincing. Hehe you may pay me 1000 per pic but it would be cheaper to buy "enclave" and finish the game and wait for the credits.

Thanx Azz Viag and Gezstar!

Mathew: I think enclave for PC is out now, just a week back I think. many have worked hard to get that game working for a pc. As for the textures, I think they were all made by one man, Jens matthies, everything I know about texturing he taught me!

Hmmm, I don't really know when to use really crisp light and when not to, I go with feeling, sometimes It works sometimes it doesn't, this scene was inspired by the Bjork video "all is full of love" if you haven't seen it you should, awesome, so I try to imagine how white surfaces get lit by lights behind them or over them, I thought of the white surfaces as if they were made of plastic, and if you hold up a plastic lid or something under a lamp you can se it's kinda transparent, it absorbs the light, I think Rolling Eyes

hope that's an answer to your question, otherwise just tell me and I'll try again Smile

I very much enjoy the first two pieces. To say great job would certainly be an understatement.

Beautiful!
I wouldn't call the first two, skethces. They look more like finished paintings to me.

Beautifu Work!!!

How do you approach painting these? Are they digital? And if so, are you working on a single layer or multiple ones?

Yessir, Cap'n!!!

Good to have you back, and even better so see you having gotten some work done.

I could praise the two first pieces into infinity. However I am tired and cannot justify my feelings with words right now, so.....I'll just leave it be *sigh*

Wonderful!
