Well if anyone has notice I haven't been around much. Two weeks ago my computer's mainboard fried along with my monitor, soundcard with the possibility of my CPU and ram being KIA too. Thing is a power outage didn't happen until almost a week before this.

I ended up getting new computer parts but it's taken over a week to get this computer working and online again. Haven't gotten sound to work yet, and the other stick of ram isn't in the computer yet because of some registry problems that come up whe it's installed.

It's at the point I need it to get a few projects typed up and turned in. They are due this week so I can't procrascinate anymore.

I'd like to get my sound working again so maybe some of you folks can help me? I've tried by putting it in the pci slot under the agp slot but it hasn't worked, so I moved it one slot down and still don't have it working. The driver's aren't installing smoothly either which doesn't make my job any easier *sigh*. I think there might be an IRQ conflit somewhere, I haven't had time to look into it. The mainboards onboard audio is disabled, I'm sure of this.

Here are the specs for any one who's interested:
Amd Athlon XP 1800+
Soyo Dragon Plus
DDR PC2100 Ram (2 sticks)
Creative Labs SBLive! 5.1 Platinum (friend was kind enough to let me use this )
Creative Labs PC-DVD 12X (with dvd decoder card)
40 Gig ATA-100 HD
30 Gig ATA-100 HD
56k Modem <--evil

and gigs upon gigs of stuff (mostly music)

So yes, I would appreciate the help

Dude, sounds like an IRQ sharing problem. I've had similar crap happen to me before. You're gonna have to trouble shoot by finding out which of your stuff is using which IRQ, then reserve one of them you don't absolutely have to use by going into the BIOS. Then change the IRQ of your sound card to that reserved IQR slot.

Try it and see if it works.

Yeah I tried changing the IRQ to one that wasn't used and that didn't work at all. So I moved the card down to the next available slot and it seems to be working now. AMEN! thx for the help

Did you download Via's 4 in 1 drivers?
Soundcard latest driver?

I hate these problem with stand alone sound card, there's so much damn problem with them. Why don't you just use the one that is in your mobo?

I can't tell from your message whether you realize it, but if you're getting registry errors with the other stick of RAM, its likely bad and should be returned. Commodity grade RAM is only checked at the factory for voltage, not data integrity, and therefore has a pretty high failure rate.

Dr Bang: Yes I'm using the latest drivers for both the Via and the soundcard.

Balistic: I tried the other stick of ram and it is indeed bad, thanks for your help.

This is the first time I'm using a Socket A board but I swear to god it is becomming more trouble than it's worth. IE has crashed so many times even when I'm trying to type this particular message (3 or 4 times already). So I'm posting now so I don't have to type it out again :/ no though out message this time. grr.....
