All I have to say is that the new Z4 is UGLY!!!!!!!! What is up with that glossy olive drab army green that they put on it too? What were they thinking? The other great thing is that someone that works with me has bought that exact model, so I have to look at everyday! Great eh?

One major thing about that car is that is seems that BMW never took into account a major thing about car design. Its called reflection. The cars reflection pattern along its sides is hideous, its going all over the place, like the line work. They tried to carry the graphic of the door cut through body shape that cuts right through its reflection. Graphically the car looks interesting. My problem with that green besides its color is that it makes the car look like its made of plastic. I dont know which one I hate more, the old one or the new one? What was BMW thinking?

Just ranting because I have to look at it everyday!!! Well, the guy who owns it just sold a script; maybe hell leave and go to Hollywood. That would be double blessing if I get his office. Hehehehe

Just moody today,
Kevin

I commend them on their efforts. I think they have some interesting graphic work happening but that it overtook the main forms or that it took presidence over the main form and dictates it's reflections is what bothers me the most. The bottom line of the door and because it flares out cause it to look fat. That door line carries your eye downwards and makes the car look droopy, sagging. That's just the line, the shape they added to it only accentuates it more. I've studied this shape, it's sitting right outside my office. The front graphics are nice. The headlights look good, albiet a little Audi TTish. I like the graphics. I think I would have liked it better if it wasn't for that door shape dictating the reflection. You can see it in that first photo. Follow the reflection after the right front wheel. Then it hits that door shape and makes a dramatic shift upwards till it hits the hard shoulder line. It doesn't look right to me. I'm not commenting on it's engineering, just aesthetics. The overall proportion is good too. Also something that bothers me is that turn signal isignia. Looks like a target and is again acentuated my the negative form it sits in. This car feels more like a graphic study to me. Maybe it will grow on me, it's been done before and I had to eat my words later. But that's only after studying it further and hearing other arguments to make me sway that judgement. If you think it's great, please show me what I'm not seeing.

I hope this is coming out to make me look negative. I really look with a discerning eye towards everything but like with my own art I overlook some things that end up poking it's ugly head, only after I've spent hours rendering it. I'm just looking for some discussion here. I don't get to talk about design much anymore since I left the automotive segment and now I'm usually the only artist where I work. Thus meaning I don't get to talk about design anymore. So I was hoping to get that over here.

I'll try to post a car that I do like up here, but most of those would be older vehicles. Personally I don't see many cars out right now that I'd be willing to plunk my hard earn cash on.

That said, one car that I'm about to buy is going to be an third generation RX7. That car to me is done just right! It's the best executed design of what I call the organic trend. Only problem with that car is in its mechanics. But I love to tinker and fix up my cars so that will be the fun part.

The last generation Honda CRX! Classic. Can't find anything bad to say about that car.

Viper coupe great! With this car though it seems to be the chicken or the egg. Which one came first? The RX7 or the Viper Coupe? I think it was the RX7. I may be wrong, give me some dates.

The Audi S4. For a sedan it has emotion and forward motion to match.

I like the mech pieces on the new Mitsubishi Evo. Awesome performance. Nothing was spared there, except for it's styling.

Nissan 350Z. I drove it and it didn't feel fast to me. The body sides are too to tall. The peak in the roof is too forward, and why I won't buy this car...The vision out the back window is non apparent. You can't see out the back of that car, and if you give me 289hp, I want to see what's in back of me before I any red flashing lights. That's if you can see them.

Awe, a car I would buy if I could afford it right now, the Infinity G35 coupe. Nice!!! Although I haven't sat in it and looked out the back. Their new SUV is cool too! But doesn't it look like something Mazda would have made?

Oh, of course, the M5. Can't touch it. I drove a 540i and it still ranks as the best sedan I've ever driven. Solid, like it was made out of one chunk of metal. Fast too for being that heavy. I couldn't imaging what the M5 would be like, but it would be cool to whip a Vette while you have your wife and baby in the car. Hehehe, hahaha.

The M3 looks a little too Bling Bling for me. I'd take the new S4 over that, V8 baby!!!

Is this getting too long? Probably, I'm bored at work and no one is here yet for me to bother.

Anyhow, looking for comments and thanks to those who replied back.

Kevin

Sorry for the spelling and grammar errors. To my ex-English teachers, remember me? I was the one that was always drawing in your class. And oh yeah, I do make more money then you now. Hehehe, keep drawing folks! People will pay you for it some day!!! Appreciation is whole different thing, but I don't look for appreciation from those I work for. It's my fellow artist and their opinions that matter to me.

i could write loads of stuff here about the design of the new z4, but i try to keep it as short and precise as my humble english-skills allow me to.

the main problem with the design of the car ist its a really delicate and very vulnerable line work. take just one single sharp line out(no matter which one. just take one of the photos into photoshop and erase/overpaint one of the lines/edges), and the complete look is absolutely fucked. i think the front look is nothing more than a bad interpretation of the audi-tt elements(which, i have to say, is one of the worst looking sports-cars ever). at least chris bangle(please bmw, get rid of this man before it's too late!!!) has followed the one most important guideline for every car designer: big wheels= win. don't get me wrong, it's far from being a bad looking car, but imagining how it _could_ look, this is quite a disappointment.

still my personal favorite after all the years:
lancia delta integrale evo. brutality in a box.
the interior looks really ugly, though.

I know next to nothing about car design, but I have to say I find this car rather appealing. I always liked the Z3 and I like the lines of the Z4 even better (especially on the door). I have no reason to back up WHY I like it...I just do Smile .

Yeah, and I'd kill (2 terrorists) for the Z4. Laughing
