I did this painting as a form of practice to build up my imagination skills as well as to improve my sense of depth and mood.
The picture is about a male protagonist who must travel far in search of a magnificient ship for an unkown purpose (okay okay, I cannot think of anything at the moment) but it was too late for him because it was already way out of his reach... bla bla bla
If anyone can offer me more valuable advice or tips on the colours, mood, perspective, compositions, etc, please do, so that I can learn things from your different point of view. Thanks!!
Long live Sijun forum!!
<edit> sorry guys.. my web hosting gives me alot of problems.. so I use another 'web hosting' as well this time and please let me know if you can see the picture at all.

Now I can see it! I think the mood, colors and composition works very well, but there seems to be something wrong with the shape of the right hand of your character.
Very nice picture! |

SolarC.. I see your point about that right hand.. it might be too small for a hero type.... will correct that..
bob, the file size is only about 300+kb so I'm sure itis a reasonable size for uploading on the web.. or maybe I should try to lose some of the weight to make people with slow modems happy?
<edit> hey folks, I want to ask you if you think the purple lighting from the very foreground is too strong and glaring? <edit> |

My main comment would be about the trees in the midground. They are all blured out and lightened and dimmed as one would have in the distance but then what about the ship? Why is it so crisp and clear if the trees so much closer to us are so blurry and flat? It makes it look like the ship is about four feet above his head and the trees are about 20 feet in the distance.
I like the idea and the imagery. Reminds me of the Death Gate Cycle.
Keep it up. _________________ Praise the Lard |

MachineGod... point taken... the blurry midground has also bugged me for some time.. so I've modified the foreground so that the main focus will be on the ship and the sky. I think making the foreground blurry will make the figure all the more mysterious... hmm
is this a better improvement?
