Kind of a quicky. Although not as quick as I would have liked. I think that I'm just bad at painting people. Landscapes only take a few minutes. People are much harder.
I may have gone overboard here with the lighting. I was going for that overexposed look. It's not perfect by any means. But, I wasn't really trying to make it look polished.

Tell me what you think about the lamp. Does it look like it's sitting directly beside the girl or somewhat further forward? I'm having trouble getting any depth there. I think it's because you can't see the desk. I tried playing with the size of the lamp, but that didn't help a whole lot. It just threw off my composition.

The lamp definately has the bright quality to it. Now her face is very brown and white. Need more warm colours burnt orange and red, purple/blue (these two are cool colours) _________________ ICQ # 84220724

I think you're having a hard time with the depth because the perspective is wrong. The couch is being viewed from above and she's being viewed straight on. Also notice how you left really little room for her upper arm to connect to her elbow.
I like the mood.

Basement bound: Yeah, I have a tendency to limit my color palette.
Merlyns: Thanks.
Kamal: Wow! I really like the changes you made in the second image. Leaning her adds a lot, and makes the composition much better! The arm makes a path for the eye to follow. Before, the image was split up into different sections (something I didn't notice until your post). I just started painting without even thinking about composition. I may use your ideas to redo this painting. But to be honest I'm kind of tired of it. Maybe I'll come back to it one day.
Thanks Again!
