Loomis is great, I agree... how come I never hear of Burne Hogarth anywhere? I have several of his books and they've taught me so much. Always loomis... what 'bout hogarth!

Loomis is free.
Hogarth ... I can't look at his stuff .
But he is mentioned almost as often as Loomis. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Hogarth's anatomy stuff is way too weird and lumpy and stylized. His books on light & shade and wrinkles & drapery are pretty good though.
Jack Hamm also has an amazing book on drawing people, much more nuts and bolts than Loomis. Loomis seems to be more of an overview of form and construction, Hamm gets right in there and points out the noodly details that are especially useful for comicbook style line art. His "average female proportions" are a bit on the stumpy-legged side, but his attention to detail about facial features and drawing things like hair, clothing wrinkles and foreshortened shoes make it a nice addition to the Loomis books... |
