heres a sketch for a pic I want to spend some time on over the next few days... Im sort-of happy with the layout, but it doesnt quite feel right yet... any suggestions you have would be welcome.

this is cool, i can tell you will paint it good. THe cropping is definately a good choice. The perspective relationship between the figure, his arms, and the gun is off(his right arm is too long). I wanna see it painted.

I would crop it like THIS
- whith some transforms for the composition.

Looks good so far, now color it!

aahh.. thanks for the tips... Im not quite sure how to fix that arm (if I move the character or the gun the gunner in the rear will get obscured).

Max, Im not sure about cropping it that closely, it feels a bit constrained like that - I was thinking about taking not quite that much off the top, but removing about 10% from the right side (theres nothing happening there anyway).

Ups, I thought you would crop it like you have shown with the strokes you draw around the soldier...

So then I would't crop eighter....

Good luck Smile

bit of a crosspost but the guy in the front is going to look something like this (I think I forgot to mention that this is going to be a b/w piece because I suck at color work) - hes not quite right yet, but Im gonna work on it:

nice drawing, i say go with the version max did, make it focused and wide, give it a paranomic view, make the sun rise over the clouds, whatever (is that guy upfront on an aircraft similar to those behind? or are they on the ground?)

I think the composition needs some work yet, especially the foreground (I think). When I started with this it was a 30 second doodle done during a pathology class, now I think that I want to put a little more thought into it before I get going.
The guys in the foreground are on the top deck of a ship similar to the one in the background, the litte fighters around are not planes in the usual sense but aircraft supported by gas tanks a little like zeppelins...

heres a try on the soldier in the front (i used the original sketch, the legs got pretty messed up but I think the arm is not so noticeable now):

prehaps have the guy tilted more upwards... his gun going at almost a 45 degree angle to the ground; that way it looks like he's firing at the planes, and also draws the eye more to the planes, or if u wanna crop the image to just the guy, itll signify planes in the air. just the first thing that popped out at me

on the composition, i suddenly got an image in my head of a similar soldier in the foreground, just showing his face/helmet on the right side, i dunno if that fits the perspective, but it might look cool

yea i like the soldier in foreground, except i think it may look better if he was looking toward the battlescene a bit more. It looks a little wierd with him jus lookin out into nothin as there is a battle right behind im.
