nice. first one kinda reminds me of "oekaki" style drawings. It's also nice to see your gesture-quick sketch.

Palette choices are good as always on the 2nd page. Monochrome Fat Boy (you can use that title if you want) is good and the Club goer above him are the faves because they are graphically strong and read with great imediacy.

Jurassic Park style panels are cool too. Different style tho'. I assume the collaborator pencilled and you painted?

All in all, feelin' it...inspired...the usual.

Ron you rock so much. Great storyboards.

I visited the Atelier in July. Wished I'd been able to meet you. I'm really hoping to attend soon, but god its expensive to live there. I currently have no clue how to pay for rent. The school blew my mind away though, and seeing some of the works you've displayed here in person at the Atelier was very cool.

I dont mean to hijack your thread or anything, but if you have any advice as to how to live in San Diego without resorting to sleeping in a box and eating the paint I'm suppose to be learning with, I'd greatly appreciate it, as I'd do just about anything to attend Watts.

...Squinting... eyes... hurting... must... see... art... BIGGER... Very Happy

Hee hee.

But seriously, I'm really impressed! I never knew anyone did storyboards so detailed and complete! I've seen movie storyboards, but they generally look like they were cranked out at maximum warp and always without color!

Show 'em bigger! Bigger I say!!

Some of the icons on that second sheet look -great-.

Were they drawn at these tiny sizes?

these painting are really great, i love the colors. Somehow tho, i think they are a bit much for storyboards. I think alot of the effort you put into these could be used, to create even more storyboards. I have never seen a storyboard with so much detail and and attention spent on color. From what i have learned from my classes, storyboards are just meant to be rough sketches, giving the motion/attitude of the characters, along with information on how the camera is moving. I dont see any indication of what the camera is doing (i.e. pan, whip pan, tracking, trucking etc.). dont get me wrong tho, i love the rendering of ur images.

heh, thanks everyone. Thanks for the kind words and the comments. Matt, I agree that storyboards should be less, and more interactive to the movements. These boards had that, but I was told beyond that to make renderings with color and mood associated with them. These are going off to the animators and model builders and my objective was to put as much into the first pass of dictating what I see inmy head, and the rest can deviate from them.

I will post teh original boards as they were drawn with no color over them. They were grey scale marker renderings, and camera motion, . scene narration etc. were included. Great point though, I totall agree with you, I dont want these to e percieved as this is how a storyboard should look. Fact is, I had lots of extra time to do the color renderings, so I went at it as an assignment to learn digital coloring, and the added detail was a result of that, and all that was a biproduct of me being told to create mood, and color palettes for the rest of the team...I take advantage of the learning process as much as I can, even on the job...heh

Sumaleth- they were painte twice the size that they are now. The smaller teh image, (for me) the quicker I can move on to the next. SOme of these took me forever to color though as it was the first time trying out various colored lighting situations. I should show you the dgbones too, and there were many....

FONGOOL- I will make them bigger as soon as I start my own site, not the freebe one these are on currently.

aquamire-I hope you get the chance to come out and make an effort to be in the school. I have a few students who came out and are working as studnt security, and or landlord tending on the major college campuses here, while not attending them. I dont know the logistics of that, but it sounds like a good thing. I have seen people try to come out here and take clsses, who moved out here, then have to get a part time job to pay for the living expenses, only to find they are now working more than studying or attending classes. Make sure you have a game plan before heading out. Get a job at Kinkos where you are and transfer here. Kinkos is good about working around the school schedule. I am sure there are other chains and establishments that would do similar.

ChiaNi-I would love to see some of those boards...

Thanks again, any other comments would be greatly appreciated. See ya

Fred

How can anyone get bored of these?-) The lighting is really good and you've got a great knowledge of human anatomy. The disco guy looks a bit like Johnny Depp in the movie Ninth Gate Smile The only image I don't find as good as the other pics is the ice cave.. looks a bit like it's made of clip art images, the lighting doesn't seem consistent. The idea of the glowing through spikes is good but adds too many highlights and thus sort of breaks the image when it should tie it together.. I personally prefer sacrifing nice looking details for better overall impression.
To fix it I would do something like this: (oops, seems like I darkened the middle pillar too much which causes the image to split in half)

btw. I was about to attend the atelier exactly two years ago.. had pretty much everything prepared but finally changed my mind and decided to wait for a couple of years before I go there and now after two years I've got so much going on in my life that I don't have the time anymore :/ If I ever happen to get a job in the LA area, I'll pay a visit to the atelier, I could REALLY use some lessons on anatomy..

Anyway, it's great to see you back Ron! Now bore us some more!! hehe
