Hiya all,
just joined the club after seeing everyone's work here. Inspired me to try to learn how to draw (properly) and attempt to paint...
This is the second of two unfinished piccies, kinda inspired by the Ron Volstad illustrations. But I'm at the point where it looks a bit srewed up and I can't go on...
I need crit/advise , please
sorry for size of Pic -

Ok as for shadows they need a little work. Pick one light source and then work from that for starters (because once you get into two... it becomes a little more hard with light bouncing around off of difference materials). The eyes are a little dull and flat. Look at your eye in the mirror (unless u can look at both at the same time) . They have a high degree of moisture wich catches more light than say your skin (dry). And moving back to shadows and light, it doesn't look right altogether. Some shadows need to be lightened, other need to be harder instead of softer as goes for highlights as well. If he is outside then there should be some light coming up from the ground (say for instance a sandy path or more so over water). But just little things. If I can dig out a picture somewhere of someone that gave a great example of this I will edit this post. Oh wait I will just link you to a few tutorials that will probably be most helpful.

I hope I could have been some help since no one has really replied yet
Is his front right leg resting on a rock too ? Just curious
It is looking good thought regardless of a few flaws... some of my earlies (and even current) have some flaws and my older stuff... I never show to anyone but myself (just to see progress on) :p

Good reply - so I don't have much to say - I think this pic is very good. If you add a nice lightsource the pic will be great.
One thing - I think his eyes would be closed a bit more if is smoking the hell out of that cigaret (?) |

pretty nice pic, as far as attitude goes... a background would probably help a lot, though... aside from that, just one thing: is the guy currently on patrol? coz if he is, lose the cig (surest way to get you killed), and work on the way he's holding his weapon, in addition to making him look a heckuva lot more alert... if he's taking five, then feel free to ignore those suggestions... :p |
