This witch is loosley based on my wife. (shhh, she dosent know about it yet!)
I havent started on the witch yet, right now I am frustraited with the background. I have redone the background 4 times now, especialy the ground. Each time I am completley unhappy with it. I know I want the cauldren, I know I want the moon and second source of light. But the ground just looks like kaka. The sky isant much better, but for now its passable.
Any and all suggestions and C&C will be heard! (I need HELP LOL)
Witch WIP part 01
Needs help!!

Witch WIP part 02
Working on the Witch herself. Need to find a way to make her darker in the shadows without losing to much detail. Still fiddling with it.

p.s. - This is an attempt NOT to use the burn/dodge tool at all! _________________

OK, I think I'm pretty close to finished. I need help in a few area's though.
Witch Al Ian WIP
I desided to set the ground aside, looking at the whole composition it just didnt fit, I also need more practice at doing ground before I take that step. So off to the playground (in PS) for that type stuff. I did a bit of work on the sky, I like the milky way effect! Also finished up the moon, which turned out better then expected.
What I need help on now is her eyes, the Al Ian charictors have black eyes, but the look so lifeless when its not a black and white drawing. I need help making them seem more alive. I need to hold up a cardboard sign that says "Will try any suggestions for art!!"

Update 4
Witch WIP 4
Corrected alot of the light source problem (Yes, duh the moon is BEHIND her LOL) Also moved the brightness/contrast to the desired level. Still having problems with the flat-black eyes not looking alive

hehe.. how can you draw your wife as a witch and get away with it? ;]
j/k.
she doesnt even look like a witch. when i saw the thread topic i though long pointy wrinkled chin and nose and straw hair and green eyes.. bah!!
anyway, i think you need some funky red haze in that spacy sky.
wait let me find something to show oyu what i mean, since i dont know if you approve of paintovers..
here: http://www.mindspring.com/~joeuhrig/Pictures/Space/hubble.JPG
you see that red space haze! that's what i ment. teehee.
good job so far. ground looks good (not kaka!). maybe you should crop it just below the last seen rock (that pot doesnt fit imho) |

You won't see eyes without any highlights very often. But I think it's not that they don't look good now.
The only thing wrong with the eyes is that they seem to be painted on the face.
You can try to make them look more embedded (that's what I tried). You could also fill the eyes with a pattern like the stars, just a little darker.
And you can try to show that they are slightly rounded with a highlight by adding a gradient in her left eye (from the green light). _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

AndyT - Whoe, now theres an idea. That does make them look more like eyes, but dosent take away from the "big black" eyes I was going for. Like not 100% reflectiv, but kind of like their wet, if that made sence. Rock on _________________

Have not much ideas for you, but I think the picture when the moon is reflecting on the ground looks very good, nothing wrong there!
Matbe you would want silhouettes of other witches riding their brooms in front of the moon? |
