Posted and earlier version of this in the WIP section. Now it's finished, so I guess it's time to post it here. It's a comission for an ariticle about gadgets from Japan (Yes I know the dress is Chinese, but she has been shopping a little in Shanghai Wink. And the editor wanted a white background for text,so...

... Anyways, tell me what you think!

I think the biggest problem is that the foot's rather too tiny--the hand is large, but it's perfectly proportional. Not all ladies have little dainty hands--you should see mine, for instance--if I'm playing the piano, I can stick my thumb on one key and my pinky or fourth finger ten keys higher. Add to that the fact that the arm is stretched forward, and the "camera angle" seems to be from slightly below, and the hand makes perfect sense.

To avoid the illusion of a giant hand, you could try raising the POV so the viewer's looking DOWN at the model--then the hand would appear less gargantuan.

Thanks for pointing out the anatomical problems. You're right about the foot, it's way too small! Theres still time so I will try to fix that... The hand is another problem, but I don't think it's that bad....

Anyways, just because this was a comission, it doesn't imply that I'm a professional illustrator (yet, at least) I'm not doing this full time and I'm still learning, and getting a commission is more a matter of contacts/friends... (and it's not really high profile stuff). So just because you think you can draw better than me joeypoulin, that's no guarantee that you will get a job when you hit the market, sorry!

...And the reason I posted here was of course to get critiques, and to help me see my mistakes, and you have helped me a lot, so thank you! Smile

i already saw this in the wip, but wanted to balance out the comments a bit - cos out of the 4 comments you got, i didn't see a single word of praise. so : aside from the anatomy issues, i think it's nicely stylised, a good painted manga style. and you managed to pull off the white-background well. if you could get the aibo a different, more plasticy texture, that would be good too.

Personally I like her! I think she is quite adorable. Very Happy

I do agree with the slight anatomy problems, but they aren't destroying the look of the picture if you ask me. That doesn't mean I don't think you should fix them, but still....

Aside from the foot and the hand, I would like to see the chest area tweaked a little. Right now it almost appears as though she has one very large breast. I think she would look much cuter with two smaller, defined breasts.

But yeah... keep working at it because I think the piece is nice. She's got a very cute face Smile

When I came across this pic I saw some of the anatomy issues that most of you have pointed out, but I was quite upset to see the harshness of witch some people choose to convey, The purpose of this forum is for constructive crits not one upping. it truly does sadden me to see this ..

Geztar and Jezebel, thanks! Smile

Joeypoulin, I can take the critique, thats why I'm here, I just think you're reasoning was a little weird. And it takes more than just drawing skills to make it as a professional/freelance illustrator/artist (Picasso only sold one picture during his lifetime). I think it depends a lot on style. I don't feel that I developed a particulart style yet, rather than I have done a lot of different stuff (3D, 2D, and non digital media). Your ability to sell yourself is also very important, as is your communication skills. And my daytime job is as a gfx-artist/3d-modeller in the game industry, not as an "illustrator"...

Anyways, I have tried to correct some of my mistakes, thanks for pointing them out. I tend to get very "blind" with my own work after a while. Here is the update.

Looking much better, especially the shirt and foot areas there. Good job!
