Hello
I have painted for 5 hours now and this is what I came up with, it is some kind of Jungle creature.
Also, Thanks to all the people who are posting tutorials and giving tips here in the Sijun forum, they are helping me and other to progress painting skills. You know who you are.
Heres the picture, and as always give me C&C, you know I need it and I wont get offended.
Is there maybe too much color? The painting is painted with the painting flow 10 and opacity 50, and different colors.
have a nice day

I am not that great myself, but I notice the perspective is off. You need to shade the (our) left side of the creature more, and make the mouth smaller on that size.
Its a good start! _________________ L8r,

Its alright, but Id bet money on it looking spiffier as abstract art. Experiment, add nice black outlines and stick in flat colors. |

matthew...gettin good man....you'r starting to paint with a more "painterly" feel with your pieces--rather than using the dodge & burn so much
i see you got away from the blurry style you had goin too---
good use of shadows and colors---but now you need to conquer the next step...anatomy and structure--just keep doin what you're doin...
::::practice with photos of friends, family, celebrities etc....this way you can develop your skills for proportion and perspective better---BAH i've said too much....keep it up!! _________________ www.andresguzman.com

Yes, you're doing good.
The mouth is the only thing which doesn't fit. Maybe the ears...
The colkor is okay, maybe a bit too saturated but you choose warm colors for jungle that#s good
Look at same anatomy books for the flow of the face muscles.
Thet will help ypou to define the shapes right.
Keep it up! |

Hey Matthew,
I agree with what everyone has already said.
Referencing human anatomy would really make this image better.
Also I don't think the colors are too saturated but the lighting needs to be defined a bit.
I did a quick overpaint. I'll post it if you want.
Good luck and keep going _________________ Mindsiphon Dark Art |

Wow! Thank you everyone.
I usually dont paint for this long, Im gonna see if I can crank up the volume in the next painting.
Yeah Max I had problem with the mouth, is it out of perspective?
mindsiphon, I would love to see the overpaint.
have a nice day

Oh My God! I have a long way to go.
Thank you for posting the overpainting and for making it so cool. I am just curious, How long time did it take to make the overpainting?
Thank you

I don't mean to single you out or put you down at all, Matthew, so I hope I do not upset you by saying this, but...
I see this question asked very often by many of the beginner artists. Wouldn't it be more important to ask how, rather than how long? The how long will take care of itself eventually if you practice enough, but first you need to see what errors you are making and how to improve. If you want to get better, the time it takes is just the time it takes, I think.
Again, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I just want to see you continue to improve rather than psych yourself out by worrying about the time too much. |

well this is the best one i have seen from you yet, what you need to keep in mind when painting a head is that the face is made up by the skull, so go get a anatomy book and do a lot of skull sketchs they will help out a lot when doing portraits _________________ i have seen it all, i have done it all, i can't remember most of it? |

I must say, agree with Zarathustra.
Whether the pic is going right or wrong is determined from about the first minute..
If you build wonky foundations, you can go over all that's built on top for the rest of you life without making your building stand straight. The foundations in the case of painting are frequntly the hardest part, and the most talented artists are those who can define something obscure with a precious few strokes.
If I don't make sense it's probably best to ignore me.
I hope I haven't been rude

Hello
Its totally ok Capt.Fred. I asked for C&C and thats what I wanted and you are right.
The thing that I was in the Flamewar earlier wasnt that I cant take critisicm, it was the fact that some people in here decided to give me threats and mainly bad comments about all things I did. I used to love this Forum and posted almost everyday several times a day but I guess that have must come to an end, now I can paint more instead.
Please give me C&C in the Next thread I will be making, I want the comments totally honest, although, I havent give people much critique but thats just the fact that I cant give any good cause I am myself just tryin to learn to paint good.
I hoped this made sence, if not, please then dont start any flaming.
have a nice day Capt.Fred

hey matthew, i gotta say that youre coming along nicely and i hope you really keep on working at it. i know a bunch of the guys are saying that you need to learn anatomy, and they are correct, id suggest enrolling in a life drawing class, however if you cant do that theres a book that you really NEED to pick up, its cheap and probably one of the best books for helping you to understand anatomy. heres the name of the book:
Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life
by George B. Bridgman
this book is one of the definitive manuals on life drawing.
another good one would be the Glenn Vilppu guide to life drawing
i think its available on his website at
http://www.vilppustudio.com/
anyways keep working and good luck. _________________ thats funky.....and not in a good way.

this took me about 1 and a half hours.
i liked the colors, matt, you have to remember that if you pick lines, draw lines, if you pick tone and shade, choose that. your drawing is inbetween.
also, TRACE! i'm assuming you used photoshop. over lay a picture on there and trace it. and then another layer for painting over that, try it. it'll help you. continue drawing!!! _________________ |
