After centuries of absence here is another painting in the "Stranded" series.
Nothing too special. Painted over a photo I took during the reference shoot of the 'Swordfish' job.

Expect more frequent updates since I'm back from New Zealand and finally all settled in at my new apartment - workstation is set up and DSL modem arrived today.

Also planning on finally doing the overdue redesign of my webpage.

Good to be back,

Loki

I like it. the broken dome look real and the silver tone just match the citycape. I like it a lot.

Jesus Loki, your stranded series is years old, right!? The NZ stay was just for a couple of months was it, I seem to remeber the story of your departure going 'round?

Anyways.

I like sthe ship design the most, as it's quite different from most designs. Loos like a GT Viper hood from space.
It 's a little too clear compared to the rest I think. It seems to be as clear as the brown building just beneath it which is much closer.
How about the smoke, is that a photo element of is it handpainted? The reasom I ask, is that FEW would remember to paint the halo effect from the relative back lightning.

Hope to see more of your stuff around.

heya peter!
i've been waiting a long time to see something new from you.

besides some little things, i just love the image.
the ship does not blend perfectly into the scenery, but i can't say for sure why. maybe it's because the ship is too clear, compared to the rest like sukhoi suggested. either this, or it is just a little bit too bright for my understanding of the scene.
ok, this was not a really useful comment, as i would not be able to draw something of that quality myself and therefore can only guess the reasons why it doesn't exactly work out as intended. at least for me.

nevertheless one hell of a picture. thumbs up :P
...and the smoke is amazing!

I didn't expect to live to see this day, just joking Wink Great to see you posting again!!
Your work is always very inspiring and this is no exception. It works very well as it is, but if you have time I think you could experiment with the smoke a little bit, I painted an overpaint to show you what I was after but when I was about to save it Photoshop crashed, must have been the first time this year... The other computer hadn't finished rendering so I had time to paint another, the first version was more refined but I think you get the idea.. basically I just increased the smoke cloud and made a simple cast shadow to the foreground buildings (also added one building in front of the stranded ship so it reads easier the ship is on the background)

Now paint some more!

Hey Loki, I am happy to hear something from.
Well, nothing special to say about that. Just amazing as usual.
Maybe a bit more amazing than usual...hehe

Thanks guys! Good to be back!

BG: you're totally right. In previous versions the spaceship was a bit more muted than this. The smoke comes from blow torches that are being used to cut those cruiser apart - which stranded months ago. Of course one can't see that from just looking at it, but oh well.

Not a great piece, but hopefully there will be more soon.

Loki

Hey Loki! Welcome back!

My only crit is the city as a setting. This stranded piece is different from the others --they took place in isolated locations. I thought the barren, difficult to place landscapes lended to the mystique of work. There's a haunting loneliness to the other pieces which seems absent here. Is it possible to be "stranded" in a city? I guess if I was an alien who crash landed on Earth I'd feel stranded, but this one reads a little more like "Captured!" rather than "Stranded".

Pat - you're right! Should I make another one (ever) I'll put it into a black hole Wink ... or at least a place with a high 'solitude factor' ...

Thanks!
