Hello, this is the first serious environmental painting I've done, and I'm hoping for some tips on lighting and composition. Any suggestions on the concept are welcome also.
Thanks,
-Isaac

hehe... did you make a double post
I think the environment looks cool, I only have trouble with the highlights on the characters. The lightsource on the mountains is coming from the left but on the characters are the lightsource from the right.
Maybe it is the reflection or some light from the right, outside the picture.
Im not a pro just thought it would be a tip.
have a nice day

overall comp looks ok to me. fire/glow trails coming out of flying crafts can never be darker than skylight in this situation. Smoke can, but not fire. in photoshop i would paint anything that radiates light in Screen blend mode, wich guarantees a lighter end result no matter what two colors you combine. _________________ If there is no God, who pops up the next kleenex in the box? |

i think the diffuse light on the characters are coming from the lit mountain to the right. the chars themselves are in a shadowed area wich could make them perhaps somewhat darker. _________________ If there is no God, who pops up the next kleenex in the box? |

i like it. the only thing i can think of right now is, it might be nice to have a slightly rougher/harder texture on the mountain rock, because it's looking a bit chocolatey at the moment.
also i agree with the jet exhaust and darker characters comments. |

man that rocks! For 'composition' its... a little light to me though. but what do i know, im no pro.
i think u should make it richer! it could just be me, but i think the clearest blue sky like you used in your pic is kinda boring... how bout a nice warm sunset? or after-shower haze, or sunrise? at about 7a.m? pinkish hues... etc.
and yes, again, about the exhaust trail. should not be darker than the darkest shadows.
other than that i want to paint/colour like you !!!!!! do u colour-in, or paint? or both?
pls tell :>
P.S: i love the way you did the 'tech' parts... the wall design, the clothes/gear! |
