Cool. i had the exact same exercise at college. Very Happy
I think your solutions are good, you might want to try and invert the "increase" one -black to white- to make it more effective.
the Bold one seems to have a white outline, are you allowed to do that?
I think the last one (playful) needs some work- right now it's more "unbalanced" than playful imo.

yep i suppose ur rite is is more unbalanced...hmm too late now Razz i was kinda thinkin along the lines of jenga or one of them balancing games -perhaps thats why? Or maybe those ABC buildings blocks about to fall down..
What did u study in college Bilbo? I think this is a fairly widely used exercise..
Dont think im allowed to invert though- since its black squares n all, but our lecturer said it was cool to put on a outline to emphasise ur squares- have them on top of each other and such.

Our class is gonna vote on the best ones -wonder how ill do! Question

Excellent exercise!

Looks like you used some trapezoids and rectangles as well as squares however... Smile

Funny, I think most people who have gone to some kind of design school have done this at some time or another. Oooh it takes me back... *chuckle*

Good one size Very Happy
I'm in first year at art school, and I've been doing stuff like that as well. I did my example of repetition, hierarchy and rythm using a scene with fish. I should show it to you guys.

Size: I like your attempts here. I think they are pretty good.

Usually when you are set the task to only use squares though, then they mean 2 dimensional squares. This is usually the case, its just to remove any distracting complications or side topics.

Maybe the next step would involve 3D, but...you may be allowed to do this already, if so just ignore what I said. Smile
