Here is the image I spoke of in the digital art discussion forum, posted under the topic swastika..

http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=15485

As you can see the swastika's aren't used as symbols, in the ideal sort of sense, but merely as how from my research a WW2 battlement would look like.

I woud really lile to hear everyones comments on this.

1. is the drawing okay, (of cap, architecture, etc, etc)

2. are the size relations of all the elements pretty believeable.

3. does the images have a visually interesting impact to it

4. do you think it's a good piece for comic book cover work

and yes, I know a cover should have a focus on the character.. (and not his Bruno Magli boots, or tight Jack LaLane ass, but I'm attempting something different with this one... trying to (god forbid-coin a cliche' phrase), and kind of think out of the box with this one) I have another cover in the working with a completely different character, which conforms to the standard cover designs that make up the industry, and I may post that one as well.. but until then

any C & C's you can offer would be extremely helpful

thanks

Bobby

i think it looks great, perspective is very unique. i really like the contrasting cool blue on the right and the warm reds and yellows on the left, it really balances the image out. good work, i like it!

wow, this is really cool!!! Captain America has to be one of the coolest comic book heros of all time!! The big boot is a little bit distracting but the blue makes it so it doesn't stand out quiet so much.

I like!!

Damn, I love this painting! I never liked Captain America much, but this picture is definitely cool. Its great that his fighting nazi's, it makes the picture seem alot more real, and it's politically correct.

My only critism is the trail left behind from the bullet on the bottom right (the one that passes infront of the flag), shouldn't it be more narrow like the other trail marks?

I think that the background is excellent.! The hazy, cold blues in the background combined with the ferocious firing and warm yellow glow are great!

I don't think Ol' Cap' quite lives up to the backround though. The rendering of his seems less precise as if you where sort of searching for the shape while you where drawing (something I do a lot, hehe). I also think that his position is a little weird. He's jumping right? At first it seemed to me as if he was crawling over the edge seen in the bottom of the picture. Perhaps it's too late to fix and perhaps it's not important enough, I dunno.

He's basically lacking some power I think.

Good job though Wink

Cap has no buttocks... His legs just seem to blend into his lower back. Either that, or the foreshortening of his left leg isn't correct.

Other than that, it's an awesome visual!!

Now see, that's great! The background is indeed the strongest part of this piece. The perspective is a bit wonky on cap. it looks like he's in his own space and not interacting with what's in the background. But this is a superb image. Very nicely done. And no problem with the Swastikas. I think they're appropriate here.

ZippZopp - thanks Smile

Sgt. Squeaks - yeah I did this one without really concentrating on the foreshortening drawing of Cap and sort of winged it in Pshop... I regret doing that with such a challenging pose.. I may go back into it and revise the pose overall.. there is somethig about it that doesnt sit well with me.. Perhaps this should be in the WIP forum.. great avatar BTW Smile

chronus377 - excellent eye, there.. probably something I subconciously told myself to fix in the end, but great notice, I will take care of it..

jr - I agree.. but thanks for the input

Sukhoi - yeah I see what you mean , what I was trying to do was get away from a typical cleanly rendered image, and I sort of only did that with Cap at this point... and the JPEG doesnt translate that at all, I have to sit back and decide if its worth doing at all

oscar - again I agree... it seems my best bet woud be to revise the drawing end of it

Jami Noguchi - thanks, and yeah he does separate from the BG, mainly cause I was bothered by him and couldnt put my finger on it tillI have heard members comments.. so I didnt deal with blending his color to the bg yet, but I will Smile

B0b - I tried finding ref from under his boot and couldnt.. so I went the route of a clean shoe.... you think I should fix that, or do you have a ref of what his boot looks like???

yeah thats a tough one as Marvel artists never bothered drawing any detail on soles of shoes/boots :/

since he was from the Army , how about using the same grip as they had? i don't know if it would detract from the 'Capt America' image we've all come to know.. either way i think the bottom of the boots look too clean..

They are "pirate like" boots, which have leather soles, and leather soles have no tread. So I think the boots look right. But they do look too clean, so maybe add some discoloration in the wornout areas like the heel and the ball of the foot.
