I find it difficult to make strokes from left to right and when ever I needed to I used to flip my image in PS horizontally, did those strokes and fliped it back. That also gives some interesting feedback on perspective and so on.
However, now while checking out Painter7 I somehow cant find a way to flip my image horizontally, meaning the whole image including all its layers.
So, can someone perhaps give me a hint how to do this in Painter? |

Just use the Rotate canvas tool in Painters tool bar. Its the one that looks like a circle with an arrow . That rotates the canvas for you. _________________ Ed Wiser

Hm... Rotating is not like flipping, but for the stroke direction it helps me out. Thank you!!!
Still, I hope a new version of Painter will have a flip function.
Jin: (If you ever read this) I read somewhere that you are going to betatest Painter 8. If you have the possibility to still make suggestions for version 8 then this would be something Id like to be in. |

I don't have my Painter at this pc right now, but if I remember well, under the "Effects" menu is the "Orientation" option that lets you flip vertically or horizontally your picture.
I've done it several times, so it exists, I only hope it is where I've told you. _________________ _ _ _____ _ _

Hi,
I don't know where you read that I'm going to be on the Beta testing team for Painter 8, but that's not a done deal (yet??). I've been asked to join the team by Corel Painter Program Manager Tanya Staples but haven't sent in (or even read) the NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) they sent to me. My computer is old and acting up lately so I haven't decided if it's wise to take the chance yet.. though it does sound interesting and fun and I've indicated to Tanya that I would like to.
Unfortunately, you're right. There's no way to flip the entire image in one shot if there are Layers and other objects layered above the Canvas. We can't even keep certain types of Layers in their original state if we want to flip them either horizontally or vertically. Because of this, if we have certain Layer types in the image, we need to be sure we're finished working on them in their original state before flipping them. You'll see what I mean below.
To flip Default Layers, highlight each of them in the Layers list, individually, and use: Effects > Orientation > Flip Horizontal (or Flip Vertical).
To flip the Canvas, highlight Canvas in the Layers list and use Effects > Orientation > Flip Horizontal (or Flip Vertical).
Other Layer types can't be flipped until they're converted to Default Layers. These Layer types include Water Color Layers, Liquid Ink Layers, Dynamic Plugin Layers, and Text Layers.
There are a couple of ways to convert these kinds of Layers to Default Layers. Depending on the Layer type, either:
Use Effects > Orientation > Flip Horizontal (or Flip Vertical) and when you're asked "Commit to an image Layer?", click the Commit button.
... or ....
Highlight the Water Color Layer, Liquid Ink Layer, Dynamic Plugin Layer, or (Painter 7 only) Text Layer and in the Layers section menu, choose Convert to Default Layer, then use Effects > Orientation > Flip Horizontal (or Flip Vertical).
Your best bet, if you want to be able to flip the entire image in one shot in Painter 8 is to write directly to Tanya Staples at ...
[email protected]
... and let her know how helpful this feature would be. I know you're not alone in wanting this capability, along with being able to rotate the entire image in one shot.
Good luck, |
