I think Eatpoo is for a special kind of people
Both www.conceptart.org (which has high quality, and quite a few posting professionals) and Sijun to me feels basically open for all, and rely on standard netiquette to function. Eatpoo is... for a special kind of people.

Roundeye you won't understand. and your remark cause prob to others (me at the moment)! Because i said somethings (my simple notice) i am a sucker, a loser. a flooder etc..etc.. it is the trend for the moment and it's so easy by the way.
i'd know how can you juge me like that?
you, you're pittyful : oh i don't like concept.org, i'm jewish! mom!! haha
me, i don't like people who use this "excuse" like an argument. I like your art but i see the "person" is not so interesting.
so now, treat me how you want...
ciao, poor martyr Roundeye. you're only martyr on earth for 50 years
ps: speak clearly, i don't understand your stuff.

Light/Roundeye, there are ratings at eatpoo? I didn't even realize.
With the new software and new focus on Moderator involvement at Sijun, I think Sijun and Eatpoo are good compliments to each other. The difference is tonal, I think. Eatpoo is more in-your-face, while Sijun is more reserved. I expect trash talk at EP, but I expect serious discussion at Sijun. EP just seems...younger to me. Not that that's a bad thing; it just is.
As far as adding to Sijun, I think contests are cool. More interaction with moderators is good. Sticky topics is definitely good. The ability to post Flash movies would be cool, I think, but that's a little thing. |

There are ratings at eatpoo light? what are you talking about, there has NEVER been any ratings feature at eatpoo.
"I expect trash talk at EP"
Trash can mean everything and we certainly do not trash everything. We're also not allow to trash others forum because we're in love.

Hey Bang,
I'm just pointing out the differences. I actually like the trash talk at EP. Like I said, EP seems younger, but that's not a bad thing. |

an old thread...looks like i need to pay more attention.
sijun is like the old shaolin temple...at one time it was the only place to study kung fu...eventually it became well known and monks left...new schools popped up...new temples were built....
without sijun there would be no eatpoo....mr bang...roundeye...tom....gotta respect the ancestry...I learned a lot over here. Some of the threads...like the color theory thread here...are still among the best threads ever. nothing tops sijuns speed paint threads...sheesh...the only thing close is andrew jones self portrait of the day area...you can always find cool stuff in both areas....and no..roundeyes toilet section doesnt count.
poo is like an art hangout...a big lounge...its fun...its not work...and its SOMETIMES art related....the photos going on over there are one of my favorite sections.
sijun is pretty focused...more moderator participation will help a lot I think.
conceptart.org is very focused...perhaps too much...but it is organized and has a lot of pro participation...if you ask a question over there you get it answered. The daily artwork done by the industry pros is definitely inspiring...as is a lot of the other stuff going on.
lumental was a great idea but a pros only forum is hard to maintain because everyone has so much work to do.
I stop by the others as well....when i find time...
jason
PS..roundeye...no mouthing off or I will make a big link to your site and run up your hosting bill...TRAFFIC TRAFFIC!!!
hey dhab...how many visits a month is sijun getting? how many did it get at its peak?
just wondering...we need to have a thunderdome sometime with all three sites. i will send you a pm.

"ts not work...and its SOMETIMES art related"
What are you talking about mister! 8 out of 10 eatpoo forum section are dedicated to art and ONLY art. Shitty off-topics, horny lonely, masturbation, penis size...etc discussions are ONLY post in the Toilet and General Banter.
Forum is moderated in real time by 10 professional moderators, from the Great Communist China, Capitalist America to the European Union and Australia. All the Art Gallery forum is STRICTLY moderated.
So don't look down on us mister art nazi!
And Sijun is my second dad, my moms goes out with a Strong African Male now. I now have two dad
Conceptart is great!
Also i just want to say that there are TOO MANY FORUM. Dont forget cgtalk too, another great forum, oh and EbonyKeep, oh and Sagelines, oh and CafeSale, oh and LUMENTAL. _________________ Join Roundeye's secret art forum. SHHHHHHHHHHH! |

whats that? easy going, down to earth...non egotistical...and mildly preverted?
i really do enjoy many of the forums on the net...its a place to lurk, chat and hopefully learn and exchange ideas etc....its nice to see people come together even though many are from different areas of the world to enjoy the thing we enjoy (mostly)..........art. *thumbs up*

no offense intended mr bang.
eatpoo seems to be a site based on fun near the topics of artwork and art...thats how it feels to me...art does happen there...the thunderdome pieces posted in this thread are a great testimony to that...but a lot of what happens there is not art related. I go through the latest images and topics and it seems that at least half are not...nothing wrong with this...tis a great place to hang out for any artist. it is the only place you can find both inspiring artwork and pictures of bigfoot humping a smurf. right?
I would bet that if you do a search for a dirty word that you would find more results than if you did a search for rembrandt or bouguereau or picasso.
now there is nothing wrong with this...at all...your site is a blast. I visit almost daily. Word on the street is that eatpoo has a lot of chatter that tends to drown out the art discussions. Honestly...Im glad it does..because one can only be serious about art for so long before going stir crazy.

First up, deserved kudos to Sijun. I agree fully with Jason and his cool kung-fu analogy.
As for the rest...the conceptart propaganda machine in full swing!
If you want to see what eatpoo really has to offer, I urge you all to come and check it out. Serious artists and beginners alike will find it a comfortable home and an invaluable resource.
Jason, I think you should take another, much closer, look at eatpoo! If you are indeed being serious, your view seems somewhat skewed!
As for art discussion, perhaps you should look in the art discussion thread rather than general inanane banter... which contains just that.
Overall the tone is lighter, as we encourage fun. But our tolerance level for immature destructive behaviour seems much lower than the others. We try to manage the madness rather than try to supress it. Supress your natural madness at your own peril, my fellow artisans! It is one of your most important assets!
We don't filter out the reality at eatpoo, perhaps that's the difference
You've gotta have the grit.

I'm confused, the only section that are not related are:
General Inane Banter
the toilet returns (and back with a vengeance)
Temporary Forum Storage (hidden)
I'm moving all the pron threads here so i could save them later on once i get my internet connection back. Then i'll remove it.
The rest 9 forums are ONLY arts
And this is not my site, its OUR site.

Just popping up to back up my homies.
Yeeeeeah.
My view on the well-known art forums:
Sijun- Godfather of art forums. Many kids grew up and left, but come home to visit regularly. It's the only forum where the Spooge posts regularly(don't think he posts at lumental anymore?), and that, my friends, is a big deal.
The Drawing Board- Shane's board is like a welcome vacation that you take once a while(for me). The collective style and range is more focused on cartoony stuff, but the "girls" and the "Drawing Jam" sections are truly unique, and should be adopted by all forums! I'd visit just to see if Ronnie Del Carmen posted anything.
Eatpoo- Rowdy and Off Center. Wouldn't want it any other way. You can be both serious and silly, and it feels more like a family than any other forum I've ever seen.
Conceptart- Passionate art discussions, serious professonals, and art art art art!
cgtalk- gigantic online community that moves very fast, where you can actually get lost in it because it's so huge. Well moderated, friendly atmosphere. Lots of famous professionals helping people out, but can be a bit annoying when too many 13 yr-olds start posting. The CG Challenges are the best organized online competitions around, and the amount of talent from pros and hobbyists are staggering. The resident cynics and jerks sometimes makes things unpleasant there, but most forums have the resident idiots/jerks...
There are other forums, but I barely visit them, or they aren't art-related. |

i, for one, agree with jason that eatpoo has a lot of non-art content. it's true that most of the forums are dedicated to art, but a lot of the threads seem to digress into off-topic banter. i dunno. at times i've felt the amount of silliness to be overwhelming, but i think we've struck a good balance now. plus we have bengal and nivbed. mwahaha. i had no idea we were actually respected though.
i'm very jealous of all the pros at conceptart.org. what turns me (and roundeye, i think) off is the amount of forums - maybe too focussed, as jason said.
sijun is the primordial soup, comforting like the womb. a womb you can share with the spooge demon.

i remember a conversation i had with bang when i first asked him to help me with eatpoo and we mentioned trying to make it like an art version of SA. a little silly and funny yet smart and serious at the same time. i think the presence of bang and my RL friends that were there at the begining as well as the few that showed up right off the bat like lukias really set the tone. most people dont remember but when we first started there was a whole section devoted to midget porn. then briefly we split the retards and artists and the retard forum was named portal of poo at portalofpoo.com and crackead dave ran it but got it shut down by a bunch of lawyers so we were left with eatpoo the art forum! weeee a little history for you. anyways, im more than 100% positive that the eatpoo forums are EXACTLY what i had hoped the would become! i think bang feels the same way, even though he keeps trying to change them.
eatpoo caters to a segment of youthfull, creative, funny, inspired and inspiring brand of artist who like to laugh and enjoy life and conceptart caters to another, more boring segment. if your dad liked to copy comics and draw dragons and unicorns with markers hed probably post them at jasons site. cuz dads like to act all serious. even the ones who draw dragons. live and let live jason, you nazi bastard. _________________ eatpoo gallery - eatpoo forum |

Reading through this topic made me kind of wonder about what peoples' thoughts were about something...
I started a concept design forum (http://pub51.ezboard.com/fconceptualdesignfrm1 - look out for popups!) a couple of years ago, during one of Sijun's many "dark ages." This forum was on ezboard, a very crap option (which is the subject of another rant). At the time, my thinking was to create a much smaller board, one that was focused on the concept art area of 2D art, and primarily in the games industry. I spent quite a lot of time and energy in those days trying to educate people (to the best of my meager ability) about concept art, what it is for, what it comprises, etc. Because it was intended to be very specialized, it required a lot of effort in terms of moderating, and for a long time I was the sole moderator, because I was extremely picky about keeping it on topic.
After a year or two, there was a pretty good community there of people who were genuinely into the subject, and into learning and interacting with each other. I met a lot of pros and talented amateurs. It was very cool, but I realized that I was spending a lot of time managing the thing and less and less time doing art stuff. I think at that point I had started recruiting other mods, but I am foggy on the sequence of events. At some point, Dom from insidecg.com very generously offered to host the forum and provide better software; because ezboard seemed to be in the process of self destructing, I took him up on it. (http://conceptdesignforum.com)
Pretty soon after (or possibly right before, I am not sure), I learned that Jason Manley had started conceptart.org. I checked it out and was pleased to see another forum dedicated to the same kinds of things I was interested in, but at the same time I realized that it sort of made "my" forum redundant. It bummed me out a little, given all of Dom's and Luke's (his brother) efforts, and also because I perceived a kind of cold shoulder thing going on from "that other forum." That may just have been my biased perception, I don't know. At any rate, the combination of newer, bigger software, overlapping specialty forums, overwork and a need to get back to doing art kind of caused me to lose some steam in terms of running/moderating a concept art forum.
I think it is doing well, in spite of normal art forum problems that we are all familiar with. I think I have been shirking my duties a bit as a moderator over there, but overall it is more or less still on target. In terms of helping out newbies and advising people about the industry, I've sort of reverted back to doing it mostly in email, which is what inspired me to start that original forum in the first place.
Anyway, despite how it may sound this is not meant to be a negative post. This definitely turned out longer than I intended. Much thanks to you if you are still reading at this point...
It's cool to be part of a few different art communities and still have time to work on your own stuff. Huge kudos to those d00ds who are running art forums, including Jason Manley!

do www.deviantart.com and elfwood.lysator.liu.se count?
i know a lot of people over at eatpoo look on da as the devil. and i know elfwood has gone to shit more often than sijun has. but they're both pretty big art communities. although calling elfwood that is kind of a stretch.
as for the poo. ah the poo. i don't think it's very newbie friendly at all. and let me rephrase that. they encourage new artists. but not people who are new to forum etiquette.
but what i liked about poo that i always found missing on other forums was the constant presence of moderators, the owner, and professionals. yeah. i like that. the constant large presence in the irc room is also nice.
i popped my internet cherry on elfwood. i got my first glimpse at professional posts in sijun. but i think i found a home in the poo. _________________ -={hamilton.likes.to.draw...}=- |

One of the advantages of just having Sijun in the early days was that you could be sure that if you liked the work of a particular artist, then you could be pretty sure that they were going to post at Sijun. Alot of the great artists are now spread out across the different forums.
But then, variety is the spice of life. |

My take on the forums:
Sijun: easy going, safe.
Eatpoo: wild, and it has more sig-images than anything else.
Conceptart: the limit to one "type" of imagery limits it's appeal for me.
Elfwood: a good place for beginners.
DeviantArt: a little overcooked to my taste. Trying to find art is like navigating a -very- slow maze. But still, good for what it offers.
Lumental: interesting experiment that never really worked.
--
As you might all know, I've been no fan of these constant fracturings of the community. I dont have time to visit more than one forum, so I'm probably missing a ton of great stuff on CA and EP, and that annoys me.
Half a year back I was toying with the idea of trying to get everyone to come back together under one central site - Sijun handling digital art, CA handling concepts, EP managing comps/themes/fun projects, Francis handling "drawing" etc.
Probably too many egos and differences of opinion in the mix to make it work though.
But you have to admit - having all the best artists back under one roof like the good old days would SO rock.
Jason wrote:
>sijun is pretty focused...more moderator
>participation will help a lot I think.
More participation in what sense? You mean like getting community projects going again like the old days? Surprisingly, Spooge's tutorial series didn't gain as much participation as you would have expected. But Fred's recent posts got a lot of interests.
But Sijun is basically coasting these days, although the change of forum software has made noticable improvements. Little tiffs here and there, but everyone evertually moves on and there's enough good art posted every day to keep me interested still, even 3-4 years on. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

hey all...
i want to reiterate that I enjoy all the forums. In a way Im glad there is a division as it allows me to be able to go around and keep up with what is going on. when it is all under one roof I get lost in the hundreds of posts.
i do remember the good old days here at sijun. There was a point where i felt like it had lost its the intimacy that smaller forums have due to the massive size and much earned success. There was an avalanche of posts on a daily level. In my eyes, it was at its best where everyone gets to know each other. I remember it being like that in the early days. In a way...it seems if things have quieted back down to those levels again. congrats. Regardless...this place is famous.
i do know what you mean about not having all the guys together to see each others work. I miss the old days for sure.
FRANCIS: I wanted to let you know that I never meant to step on any toes. There is no cold shoulder intended at all. I apologise if it has seemed that way. I have been talking to the guys about doing some stuff with your forums and your site once we the new re-design and implementation finished. I enjoy your site. It is successful and has a loyal group. I would definitely like to chat with ya about how we can work closer together. we must work together between the sites to get something great going.
roundeye...your forums are great. I check them out daily. It has reached an entertainment level. I like that. It's like a place to go when you are done with art class. More of a hang out with some show and tell. a successful hang out it is............perhaps a big front page link and announcement on CA can send you some more traffic and success to talk to your host about. hehehehe...
perhaps we should come up with some ideas on how we can all work together on something...all the different forums here....what do you all think??
jason
PS..francis...sumaleth....word on the street is that even more division is going to happen among the ranks. Scott Robertson is supposedly starting a concept forums so that he can do more self promotion with his book and the classes he sells. though this is just a rumor...it is a rumor confirmed by a couple sources who emailed me saying "guess what". _________________ Jason Manley
