Hey, I haven't posted anything in a LONG TIME...and I'm sure most of you don't remember me at all. Anyway, here's a portrait I made of my girlfriend for her birthday. Hope you like!

Incredible. There's no way she won't love this.

It looks like dry media on toned paper, but those strokes and texture look so clean I'd swear it was digital.

Just how did you do this and how long did it take?

Oh, and how long have you been drawing for?

Looks good.
My only crit would be that I think her hair looks a bit "thick". A little too unnaturally thick. However, I think this could be easily remedied with a few added wisps and strands in the right places. I think this would help to loosen up the over-all texture of the hair and give a lighter feeling to it.

Other than that, I like. And I'm sure she will too.

Take it easy,
Malachi

Thanks for all the comments, guys!
To answer the questions about method:

It was done on a midtone piece of Canson with Black Verithin, Black Prismacolor, White Prismacolor, and White Gouache. Actual drawing time for this piece was about 3 hrs I think.

Malachi- Thanks for the critique. While I agree in part with your comment, I intentionally kept her hair and face a little stylized. It's a little late to change anything, as well. This drawing is hanging up in her room . Your stuff is great, and the next time I render hair I'll keep your advice in mind!

Thanks again, everyone!

Turn that frown upside down brotha.

If it's hanging up in her room, then she obviously loved it. That equals a job well done in my book any day.

Take it easy,
Malachi

Thanks for the additional comments, guys! I appreciate you all chiming in...

I've never had a problem with my server or bandwidth, so that's kinda strange.

Duckman- I assume you are of the opinion that her head appears too shallow. I'm not sure if I agree, but it would be cool to see maybe a quick sketch of what in particular you are referring to. I've included my reference photo:
