Hey, I hate to see posts not get replied to so I am going to comment (it happens all too often to me *cry*)

The leaves are nice, as is the closest tree. Most grass looks nice. Main problem is the lack of detail of the trees. Typically, one can get away with a transfer of detail, but not only is yours too sudden, it is combined with the detailed leaves. Finish up the tree trunks, and I think it could look fantastic.

my only other comment in addition to carryon's is that it kinda looks like you just copy and pasted three of the trees in the distance. I particularly like the detail on the grass. hope to have been at least remotely helpful, goodluck

Lol. Yeah I got really over this picture so I just had to finish it up and I didn't feel like making more trees. Thanks for the tips on the detail on trunks, I will try and fix that.

One thing I think looks weird is the angle of the ground plane is ... off somehow. It looks like its a bit too steep, not enough foreshortening on the middle bit of the path maybe.
The grass in the front area looks great, Id try and put some of that detail into the mid and far areas too, then youll automatically have a better feeling for the layout of the ground.
And next time you get lazy in the distance: why not have a nice foggy clipping plane there?

edit: just noticed another thing: the lighting is nicely dark and foresty, but there arent enough trees around for that.

I don't think people replied initially because there's something fishy going on with the painting.

I think it's because you used a lot of shortcuts that artists frown upon

For one, you used PS7's variable brushes to make a good deal of that grass and ground texture, and it also looks like you used the leaf brush as well.

Also, the level of detail is different all over the image, some parts look photorealistic while others are obviously done with filters and premade brushes.

If you use these shortcuts, then there is little that other artists can tell you other than to do it by hand, otherwise there's little to learn.

Thank you all for the comments. I normally make my own brushes but on this piece about one half of them were premade brushes that I modified a lot and added some stuff too them. Some of the grass and leaves I made on my own Though. Now that I look at it I realize that some of those brush presets will start to look like the overused lenseflares and such. I do see your point though and I will be sure to make mine in the future.

For some reason my image is not showing up right now. Unless there's something wrong with the server I probably have time to edit the pic tonight so check back tommorrow or tonight if you want to see an update.

Edit: Oh joy, my website isn't working.
