..or actually, to be precise, the company sees "absolutely no reason whatsoever to re-new my contract as the company believes it is not needed at all."
makes you feel pretty good, especially 'cause you are the first one to be laid off, and naturally the most widely skilled and knowledgeful one of the graphics hippie team (and meanwhile the completely graphics inept losers get to continue there).

That's some bad news Jussi. My sympathies, because life is tough without a job... though I'm sure you'll find somewhere else to work, though I'm not sure how free you'll be to do the things you were doing at your previous employment. Nonetheless, good luck to you. |

yeah..
i'll be fine.
but some of the 20 or so guys won't be fine.
in fact.. i was the first one to go, a good friend of mine was second one to go who was also in very good standing in the company..
the third guy is the best case
he's one of the owners of the company and was there to create it.. during the last 6 years he has almost solely designed and created teh software technology architechture which IS what our company WAS about, the guy is a fucking genius and extremely talented..
and he got fired. just out of the blue.
i can't imagine how bad HE must feel... |

How come that the people in control know exactly nothing about the work itself? |

Sorry to hear that, Jussi. But I'm sure your skills will get you employed again soon, if you want that.
Well, I've had a few days off last week. When I returned, two of my colleagues were fired. And the morons stay employed. At least that counts me in... |

First of all, good luck on finding a new job. I'm sure something will come up for a person with your skills. Secondly, having worked at a few companies that had so much potential and that some would argue, screwed myself and others over, I know this is true; the idiots at the top have no clue as to what the hell is going on and always manage to stay one step ahead of the real brains and keep their jobs. I have no idea how or why. Well, maybe brown-nosing and nepotism comes into play. Anyway, departments that I helped create or were instrumental in leading creatively and technologically in some way basically end up like one big orgy. Everybody's trying to screw everybody over. Friends get fired even though their attitude and skills far exceed the others who have worked there in 'priority' status in terms of service in years. Some of the nicest people I knew were let go. I was kind-of twice let-go. It was supposed to be 'temporary' on both parts and just kept extending...so I made them permanent. I had no desire to be part of companies that can't get their shit together no matter how much we try to help. Superiors often take our ideas very enthusiastically only to use them with their name credited or more often, not implement them at all. And the last manager on the line, in this case, me...always got the shaft. One company I worked for let me go, even though I felt they knew I was more talented and skilled than some of the others, but the others had equipment the company was using to help make money. Geesh. I'm still friends with 2 of the 3 owners, but man, the overall company had no clue, we were shaping up to be a damn potent team, but they fubar-ed that opportunity. Adios! The other companies are still major players but just lacked direction until a few of us got there to run the multimedia departments. When all fell through and we left or were let go, the company fell through in that area as well. Nice to have friends still on the inside that can testify to your skills and people on the outside to vouch for your skills and ability to get the job done in a friendly manner. Then there's the screwing that the fired employees try to do as they're pissed off at the comppany. It's not a good situation and not a pretty picture often. It's my opinion that these companies fail because they lack great leadership, don't possess open minds, and are always thinking of the management or owners as superior to the workers. It's my understanding that a local company who produces an international body of entertainment work has workers who are very happy with their work, their bosses, their co-workers and the general workplace atmosphere. The owners and managers realize the real company assets, the employees. They also make the workplace enjoyable, fun, and ultimately, financially rewarding. It's a hope that more companies will fall under good leadership or recognize the talents in people like us to lead others even though the owners or management may be reluctant to do so.
