Like many people, I look at and enjoy the art on this forum but I rarely post anything. I figured I would post this image that I painted for my son for his 3rd birthday. I used the Toy Story 2 DVD cover as a reference. The only thing that I changed is that Woody is holding up 3 fingers (3rd birthday). I printed the image and framed it for him. Anyway, any comments/crits are welcome and appreciated.

Nice rendering! I do similar pics for my nieces and nephews. Your son is gonna love it forever, trust me! My only crit is that there is alot of dead space in top left corner (over Buzz's head) maybe add some text(eg.Happy Birthday or something)or a planet, something along those lines, just to fill in the space! Great work! Keep posting man! |

HIS NAME IS BUZZ LIGHTYEAR, DAMMIT!!
MAN, the people I have to work with
Anyway, yeah very nice rendering on pretty muhc everything, though perhaps you might want to give them a bit more smooth transitions in the skin-tones?
Using an airbrush or whatnot?
Right now it looks like their faces are a bit more made out of clay than plastic, if you know what I mean?
Maybe it's intentional though, given that their clothes and so on don't seem to have the same problem. |

MetalSoul: Thanks. I think you are right. The hand certainly isn't the greatest. I was trying to make it look as though the tip of the thumb was resting on the "pinky" finger. I don't think I really succeeded.
Max: THanks. I assume that you have seen the reference I used. I intentionally did not paint those reflections in Buzz's helmet glass because I believed most of them came from the DVD title. I didn't really want to paint "bogus" reflections since there isn't really anything in the scene to be reflected.
Germ01: I have already given the picture to my son. He does love it. It is on his wall with the other 2 pics I gave him (first and second birthday). I have included both of these pics. in this post (I posted them a long time ago in the forum). Thanks for the comments.
Lolion: I know what you mean. I kind of ran out of time and cheaped out on some parts of the pic. I spent most of the time on Buzz's suit. Thanks for the comments.
Here are the pics. I mentioned above.
First birthday:
Second birthday:
Thanks again for the comments. |

Those are real nice. Your son is lucky to have those to look back on later.
I just hope I'm around for your son's 21 birthday pic. Now THAT one I can't wait for!
