Max Payne... RRRRRocks!
'nuff said. Almost.

Damn, the ending was really really cool, animators did some really nice job with the final cutscene.

Too bad it was too easy and short. Otherwise, it's one the best games I've played for a while, even if it's just running around and shooting. Developers made running around and shooting feel incredibly good. But considering that the #1 thing game must do is to entertain, it did that more than well.

I think it gives a fair chance for a movie or anything, practically. Looking forward for MP2, the ending was open, mildly put.

They did very good job on texturing too, on levels. Rrrrrocks.

True... I thought it was absolutely brilliant. Although the part where you have to run on the bloodveins is a bit... hmm-hmm, you know.

Actually... I loved the game so much. It's the most fun I've had with a game for a long, long time. But I thought the ending was a major let down...

WARNING: This should be concidered a SPOILER by anyone who hasn't yet finished the game. Stop reading now if you don't want to know what happens.

...

NOW, that is.

...

Anyway, I thought the ending was a major let down. After all the emotional build up, after all the getting inside Max's head, ramming home his pain, his motives, the tragedy of the whole story... they went and threw it all away in the final act. Didn't even get a look in. They went with a generic action movie ending.

Yes, I know this game is all about riding movie clichs. Yes, I know it's all about the cool factor. But before, they were riding the clich, and yes, it was a lot of fun. In the final act, however, they became the clich, and all that time and effort they'd spent building up the incredibly stylish and emotional deeper undertones of the polt was completely abandoned. Such a waste. :/

Another waste was the femme fatal; in the graphic novel, she was presented as a major plot device, someone who mattered... and yet, she never actually appeared in the game itself. It's as if the writers wanted her to be a significant character, but when it came to putting the game itself together, they didn't actually bother at all... it would have been so cool to occaisionally see her running around in the background, shooting stuff up.

Similarly, I also got the distinct impression that, at the time of writing, they wanted Max to jump off the roof at the end. Especially if you bear in mind the (abandonned) backstory. But, of course, they couldn't. The upcoming movie and sequels wouldn't like that.

But, grumbling aside, yes, I love the game.

I loved the game. My opinion is nearly exactly that what a raven-programmer said about the game.

If Max wouldve jumped off the building and the cam would have slowly rotated town on his dead body and zoomed on a satisfied smile on his face I would have liked the ending at least 500% more than the one that is. Its all about sequels and shit.

It's a fun engine to mod for. If I had the time I would make a Charles Bronson model and a Deathwish mod. The game is perfect for that sort of thing.

I think copying that Matrix(especially the lobby)thing is soo uninnovative. I hated that in 3dMark2001 enough to register for the mad onion boards and tell it to them.

Actually, it looked to me as though the very first room when you enter the Aesir tower at the end was modelled almost directly from the lobby scene. It even had black-clad security guards running in from the side, and everything. But that said, the last big fire fight in the Asgard place on the map before actually reminded me more of that part of the Matrix... although the map wasn't the same, there was a lot more running back and forth between pillars, in my case.

I think a really cool level would be when you would have to run across rooftops, kill some enemy goons on the way, BUT the catch would be that there would be a helicopter with a machine gun chasing you all the time.

I agree with slightlytwisted. Now that I can think clearly again (after the initial oooh! aaah!), those parts you mentioned should've been taken care of in a better way... maybe they thought they will get back to those things in MP2.
I mean... what happened to Mona? She just disappeared. Sure as hell she didn't get killed. "Just a flesh wound!"
And also, the archnemesis told Max that his wife had stuck her nose into business that didn't belong to her. What's that supposed to mean?
Ah well... I hope somebody does "The Lobby from Matrix" -level.
